If something is OP, then the focus should be on the UP (Under Powered) counter. CCP shouldn't be nerfing stuff, they should be introducing new counters/defenses.
I just think it would be a far better approach to balancing the game, as nerfing in comparison is the lazy lesser fix of the two. It also has the unfortunate side effect of screwing players who spent a lot f time and SPs to get to the point they are OP with [insert weapon/equipment/vehicle]. Adding a new defensive counter technology preserves everyone's achievements as well as enriching the game.
At this point, given the amount of long standing bugs, it might be a lot to ask. But I hope it's at least chewed on for awhile.

You don't need to " Nerf " things... just need to "fine-tune" them, so everything have a "Place" in the game. |

As long as there are people like fanby slayer and high commander Rhnz there will always be calls for nerfs. |

CCP doesn't fine tune, they drop a Nerf hammer to stop the QQ, then move on. |

Actually, the past and so far current approach by CCP is to NERF. I know it's the easier choice, because it involves adding nothing new and one change they can change back later. It's a bit lazy, but I can understand the development strategy.
I'm just wondering if CCP has even considered my approach. When they catch up with the bug hunting, I am just hoping they will find themselves with enough breathing time to consider rethinking nerfing to an arms race approach.
It adds complexity to the development cycle... lol, well, more than they seem to be dealing with now . And it is also a bit trickier in the balancing aspect because you have to create solutions to the player's problems with additions of game mechanics meant to counter or defend as opposed to weakening the existing game mechanics. Additional game mechanics would entail, in almost every respect, new skills and equipment. The danger there is unintentionally unbalancing the game for a short time. And let's face it, keeping up a virtual arms race is cool and exciting, but it can be creatively draining as well. However, I have no doubt CCP is up to that task.
If anything, I'm asking them to at least think outside the nerf box. One trick pony approaches always end up falling flat over time. |
