Let's set the record straight, this is a different type of shooter. For some computer Eve peeps this is their first shooter, so things are just as normal as can be. For those coming from BF3, Mag, Cod, there is something major to consider: personal loss.
I got into beta towards the end of closed beta, so I recognize corps and players but they don't recognize me. I can generally judge the player list in the warbarge, how the match will go, who drives tanks, ect. Therefore, I must plan accordingly.
I want to win just as bad as anyone else playing this game. However, if I know a loss is coming I have to protect my assets. That is the difference. Even if you lose the match as a team, you can still earn isk. This is not to downplay the importance of a win, but to say at times being realistic is the only real thing you can do.
Okay, so you know, in other shooters I was a very reckless player. High risk, high reward was the mentality. Knowing I could get another tank automatically once mine was destroyed caused this bad habit.
Dust makes you a conservative, smarter player.
First, calculate the cost of your suits and set a standard for the amount of deaths you are willing to endure before you switch tactics. Get used to ISk payed out and try to end up on the positive side.
When you've played for awhile you will see the team lineup and if it's stacked, no lie, don't even try the same way you would if you were optimistic. Attempt to do guerilla type stuff, snipe, remote mines, swarm launch. Then when they counter that with snipers of their own, go attack far reach objectives and drop uplinks. New players will arrive after some quit and the enemy will think they've got the same pushovers.
It doesn't even matter if you camp around objectives without hacking them. Just don't die. In the end, everybody will have the same skills, but who has more ISK/Prototypes? And playing conservative will make you a better player once skills are level with everyone else.
There are times that it doesn't matter if you go negative or lose ISK. A corp match or even a close random match that you just want to win. But overall, make ISK. Recognize the strength of your opponent and your teammates and adjust. If there is no way to kill the MCC before you clones run out, don't keep doing the same things.
A loss is a loss, whether it happens early or late, so earn ISK for when it really matters. Sometimes cool out on the redline, save your clones. |
