Can anyone tell me why you woild use the Gek over the assault rifle? It does marginally more damage for approx. Double the cpu, and is more than 4x more expensive. What is your reasoning?
If i double stack damage mods, I'm doing 30% more damage...
Also I'm thinking about buying the exile... I know the srats are the same, but I read on the forums that it has a tigher rate of fire vs the standard assault rifle.
As always, thanks for your input and suggestions.

Have you actually "USED" the GEK-38 Assault Rifle?
*If the answer of this question is "NO", then you need to go to the market, buy a couple, and then use them in battle.
If you STILL don't have your answer. Then, you'll have some merit in posting this.
NOTE: The "Exile" assault Rifle does NOT have a faster RoF than regular Assault Rifles. They are the same in every way, minus the fact that one is a BPO.

Free Healing- thanks for replying! I have- I bought 200 of them, and I'm down to the last 3. The damage between the two is negligable. It appears to save me approx 3-5 bullets without a modifier. Using a modifier negates this effect fo me. I've only been playing for a couple of weeks, so I may have just simply gotten better.
Speaking of and I'm going off-topic here(should I make a new thread?)- I'm coming from a cod backgroud with a playstyle that favored semi-auto's. Any tips on making the small minute changes required to stay on a target as it strafes? I've tinkered withmy x and y from 0-100, and changed motion controller settings to 0 yet it feels like no matter how minute I move the controller, it jerks too far to the right.
Any advice? |

well there are 3 different Strafing speeds to consider.
Normal - Hip Fire (fastest) ADS - Aim down sight (Slows aiming significantly) Crouch - Prone ( Slows movement even further while increasing accuracy)
The situation, upon which, you should use each type changes depending on positioning, range, and type of engagement.
As far as the GEK-38 is considered. You seem to be comparing the difference between an Assault Rifle w/ a Damge mod. and a GEK-38.
To understand the difference, you need to stop that.
Now, a basic Assautl Rifle has 31 HP Damage while a GEK-38 has 32.1 (this is based off of memory so if i'm wrong i apologize)
Now, at a base level. They do not look or function all that differently. Where it comes down to it, is the Damage Modifiers and the Weaponry Skill.
a Complex Damage Mod. ironically enough is obtained when you get Weaponry to Level 5. Weaponry Level 5 gives you 10% more Damage with ALL weapon types and should be obtained by everyone no matter what Suit you use. and a Complex Damage mod gives you an additional 10%
Now time for math
Assault Rifle
(31 X 10% = 3.1)
(31 + 3.1 = 34.1) (the same as the Standard Duvolle Assault Rifle)
that's right, you can get the same performance out of a Basic Assault rifle as a base Prototype one.
Now, that's damage per bullet. So say the rifle has a 500rpm RoF (example) . That translates to 17,050 Damage per Minute. 284.166 Damage Per second
(32.1 X 10% = 3.21)
(32.1 + 3.21 = 35.3)(1.3 more damage than the Duvolle per bullet. Which is actually a larger jump past a Duvolle, than going from a Duvolle to a GEK at base level.)
Now that's also damage per bullet. So again, assuming the rifle has a 500rpm RoF. That Traslates to 17,650 per Minute. Which is 600 More per minute than the Base AR and 294.166 Damage Per Second. Which means that it deals about 10 more HP damage per second than the Base Level AR.
This effect is boosted even further through the use of Light Weapon Sharpshooter, Adding More Damage Modifiers, Headshots and many other variables.
Remember though, DUST, and shooters in general, are games of seconds. and not all of your bullets will always hit their Target.
I advise you use a GEK-38 with a Complex Damage Modifier for 10 Ambush, and then 10 Basic Assault Rifles with the same Modifier, and see where it takes you. It may be that you've gotten too comfortable with the GEK-38 and forgotten what a Normal AR is like. If you still don't notice a difference, well then maybe it's just me. But I would say they are "Leagues" apart.

It was part of Sony's Tuesday update. If you go into PlayStation store, find Dust514, click on addons, it will be there along with Aurum and Merc pack. Make sure to choose free(default) as the $9.99 option is still there. When you log into game, it will prompt you after you select one of your chars to log in. |

For me, the biggest advantage of the GEK over the basic Assault is the clip size. Having to reload mid-kill can be deadly. I find that, more often than not, I can easily take down a red dot without that embarrassing situation using the GEK. |

Personally I get murdered by the GEK all the time. I could just be noticing the GEK more though. |

The Gek is stupid in the sense that if your a good shot and are geting your crosshair on them, even Heavies get torn apart with ease. I know cos as I heavy who used to use a HMG I know how silly the Gek is when they was eating through my shield and armour. When I used Gek, found other heavies, tore them apart... |

The GEK does 5% more damage than the Exile and has a longer range. The difference between the two is not as large as most of the posts on the forums will have you believe. |

GEK users generally do a lot more damage than the average user of a normal Assault riffle and here is why:
- It takes a fair amount of skill points to use a GEK effectively. - Most of the people using the GEK have lots of skill points. - They got lots of skill point from earning lots of War Points. - They got lots of War Points because they killed lots of people. - They killed lots of people because they are skilled FPS players who can turn around and shoot you in the head faster than you can blink.
That is why users of the GEK are OP. |
