Its about time to hear the harsh truth.
Running Low on ISK or stuff = Use Freebie Dropsuits and get paid 100k till the wallet fattens up. Teammates can steal each others vehicles and the owner cannot do a dam thing about it.
The current system lacks consequences. In fact there are zero consequences in Dust 514.

I would like ADV and Proto gear to start actually feeling like they were important.
I'm hoping the new suits that they're introducing widen the margin a little more.
That being said, in EvE you can easily slap together a dirt cheap ship and go do some PvE missions for free money, this isn't exactly new. |

My proposed reform for starter fits: More variety, but not unlimited https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=53495&find=unread
KAGEHOSHI Horned Wolf wrote:PLEASE READ ENTIRE POST BEFORE COMMENTING There needs to be militia variants for all weapon types. All dropsuit and weapon types need to be represented in limited (non-infinite) starter fits. Here is why. People need to be able to test weapons with militia variants in order to make informed decisions as to whether or not to invest skill points into them. There are militia dropsuits for every type, but the selection of militia weapons is very small. The starter fit system can also be tweaked to allow for more variety of dropsuits and weapons to try out; this would make experience of more dropsuits and weapons much more accessible, and broaden the horizons of new players beyond the favored assault dropsuit + assault rifle combo. I will outline ways to implement this in a balanced way. When players choose their starter role (Enforcer, Arbiter, Artificer, & Sentinel) they get only one free unlimited starter fit based on their chosen roles. This is the only thing that really needs to be unlimited.
All weapons need to have militia grade version. Militia infantry items can be double in price, or nerfed a bit if needed to balance this change.
All starter fits besides the starter role fit should be made of a limited set of militia items, and should not be infinite. This will help teach players how items are lost in death, and the importance of restocking.
Limited starter fits should be expanded so that all dropsuits, equipment, and weapons are represented. This would allow new players unfamiliar with the market to try out and understand the great variety that Dust has to offer from the very beginning. Here are some examples of what the expanded and more various finite militia starter fits could look like:
> assault - assault rifle + scrambler pistol + nanohive [20] > assault - swarm launcher + flaylock pistol (SOONGäó) + stasis webifier (SOONGäó) [20] > assault - laser rifle + flaylock pistol (SOONGäó) + active scanner (off market for fixing) [20] > scout - shotgun + nova knives + drop uplink [20] > scout - sniper rifle + scrambler pistol + nanohive [20] > logistics - scrambler rifle (SOONGäó) + nanite injector + repair tool [20] > logistics - mystery Caldari rifle (SOONGäó) + remote explosives + nanohive [20] > logistics - mass driver + nanohive + nanite injector [20] > Heavy - heavy machine gun + flaylock pistol (SOONGäó) [20] > Heavy - forge gun + scrambler pistol [20] > Heavy - plasma cannon (SOONGäó) + scrambler pistol [20] > crusader (SOONGäó) - slots currently unknown [20] > pilot (SOONGäó) - slots currently unknown [20] The overwhelming majority of players are AR users, many of them have never even bothered trying another light weapon other than the sniper rifle. This is a problem for getting reliable feedback; how can someone have a good understanding of whether or not a weapon is overpowered if they themselves have never used it and don't understand its drawbacks? If you want to get more reliable feedback for balancing, then you need to let new players have access to all weapon types from the very start, they need to experience a weapon from both ends to have a reliable opinion on the weapon. Having all weapon types represented in the starter fits would g let players be better testers
Thank you for reading.

This is the eve universe we are connected on the same servers, can call orbitals strikes from eve, can share communication with eve players, and fight on eve planets, all the skills are based on eve skills, the 4 races are the same from eve, and the story line is based on eve. This is a game that takes place in New Eden, Dust 514 and EVE are very similar in many ways so just get use to them being so connected.
About your post I don't think anyone who actually participates in a game not just afks in the MCC will get paid 100k I have easily gotten paid 200k and even 300k. I too have used the nooby drop suit to farm ISK which is a good way for making money so I do not understand the isk complaints. The consequences are that you will loose suits which is worth isk but besides that yes there are not many consequences that is because we are still in beta. Just think when full game releases we will be able to call in personally made installations, fire back at ships, call in orbital strikes from our own ships, have new tanks, gunships, and weapons this is only a beta thus it is incomplete wait for the full game release and then start to complain.

Yes I truly hope CCP re-imagines these grave errors. Players should have to mine for weeks before being able to play an ambush and skirmish map, and should you lose your suits or whatever you should have to go mine again, or sell things for other people. Basically Dust should really be as time-consuming as EVE so that way there's less focus on the FPS aspect and more focus on the mining aspect. This is what console gamers want. I checked btw. |

Uhhh what? Are you high buddy? This is a MMOFPS ... not a MMORPG with minor FPS elements. The entire point of this game is to be a FPS game, set in the New Eden universe. It's supposed to be the gateway to show EvE players a part of the game that has always existed but never fully realized, the surface of the planets they themselves are fighting for.
EvE players fight over territory in space, this territory naturally includes planets which the starship pilots can interact with and build stuff on the surface. But that's about it. With DUST, there's now a greater meaning to these planets and the installations built upon them. This is a war we're fighting here boys and girls, how the hell are we supposed to fight a war on the surface of planets? Well with guns of course! How are we supposed to use guns in a video game context? With a shooter game of course! And last question, what is the most common setting for a shooter game to be had in? First person of course!
Taking the game away from it's intended role is like trying to change peanut butter into jam. They both go well on toast but damnit man they're not the same.
I've seen some excellent threads on this forum about how they can implement idea like mining into the game without distracting it away from being a FPS.
Me personally, I'm not big on PvP games. I like to stick to PvE when I can. I actually couldn't care less if the PvE Rogue Drone mode gives me less money than shooting people in the face, I will grind my ISK that way simply because I prefer to do so. But by all that is holy in CCP, that PvE better involve me blasting the everloving crap out of those drones with the guns and equipment I bought or else I will be a very sad panda NOTE: I know the PvE is going to be shooter based ... before you face-hugging trolls decide to go on a rant.
Doing other things in this game is fine, and since DUST has such a vast potential, I'm sure that one day we Dusters will have a plethora of tools available for us to use in order to earn ISK by our own preferred means. But at the end of the day where does that ISK go? To the dropsuits and equipment that you're going to use to put a bullet in someone's eye that's where! |
