Is a great weapon, but there is WAY too much recoil. You fire it 3 times and it jumps up and to the left, continuing to climb the more you squeeze the trigger. If the fully automatics have littke to no recoil, why in the world does a semi-auto have any? Tbh, it makes the gun unusable at distance.
On the flip side, perhaps it's(and probably is) user error.
How should I fire it to maintain better accuracy? Any experienced TAR users here?
I understand that I need to utilize cover effectivley, and that the gun does more damage, but if Im only able to land 2 shots on a target, when I fire 5, whereas the target is able to produce a steady stream of plasma in my direction, something is wrong.
Im new, so vets please advise- what am I doing wrong?
Also, where is spell check? I post from my phone so I cant copy everything into Word and F7 it. Or can I? (thus begins the search for an app) |

I believe that siting down the barrel (L1) greatly reduces kickback. That might help you. It would make sense that you would make more effort to aim (use the iron sites) with a Tactical weapon. I have never used this riffle though. |

should try it tho. They might make other rifles more like it. It used to be awesome, but... |

If you don't give the gun enough time to resettle to your original firing position between shots, you get a lot of recoil. Space your shots out a bit further and it's pretty darn accurate. |

Post nerf it's not even worth using. For the amount of time you have to wait, you'll get wtfpwnd by a regular spammy AR. It's supposed to be a longer ranged weapon but the recoil is far too high. You're better off using a sniper rifle. It deals more damage and has slightly more recoil too. Why wait so long between shots from a low damage AR when you can have the high damage rifle?
Best thing to do is to give CCP feedback and hope that they fix it. |

The tactical rifles are my favorite. I usually aim at the Chest/neck first and let the recoil kick up to the head. I can usually drop people pretty fast like that. I slow down my shots once I'm lined up too to prevent extra recoil.
You can fire these rifles really fast too. If you just aim for the chest and fire as fast as you can then you can beat rifles like the gek-38 at a certain distance.
I still think that the tactical rifles are a bit underpowered though. Massive recoil issues should be balanced by the opponents aim being jilted slightly with each impact. |

If you are serious in keep using them -- get yourself a mouse. Knowing the company's history, we have slight chance to see TacAR fine-tuned again, soon. A mouse helps. You will learn to 'drag it down' to somewhat compensate for the recoil; it's not perfect but helps. Unless you are godly-good with Sixaxis like many out there.
Speed boost helps, too. You are able to quicly make distance, keep changing angle from which you attack and run for cover/out of range to reload that small magazine of yours (see to get skills into reloading speed soon). Generally speed is working good with this gun.
Use the strenghts of the gun -- distance and good headshot dmg -- whenever you can.
Also, troopers' advice to start firing from belt/chest height is good. If the target is already low on HP, going for headshot is good decision, too.
Pombe's advice to somewhat wait between shots doesn't work good for me, tho it might for you.
EDIT: Try Harder's advice to not use them might be the best, tho it didn't work for me. |

when they did a "balance pass" (nerf) on ARs the decision to add recoil to all the ARs was poorly thought out, instead of adding recoil to each one accordingly they just pasted the recoil effect blanketing over all of them it seems without considering the possibilty they could be over nerfing the tac which they did as VERY few people are seen to use it now, it has gone the wayside of the breach- mothballed.
the tac only has like 4 or 5 more damage than a full auto breach
the tac needs to be brought up to the damage in the 50s considering the level of skill it takes to manage the recoil.. and like said above if your having to take that much time to adjust between shots a normal AR has killed you, the only advantage i can see currently to the tac is maybe for hunting down snipers. the tac damage needs a serious buff and i will say this as a total masshole (MD user)
if you can begin to see the tac as your secondary weapon for certain situations and your sidearm as main, would probably work out better |

I finally switched back to the TAR, and murdered a pile of people right away.
The recoil is high to avoid modded controllers/mice - instead of reducing the firing rate (...), they added recoil beyond what should have been done.
It is also "easier" to do headshots with, which does 165% damage instead of 110% (on shielded), at which point you're getting close to 2x regular AR damage. |

Some were, but the majority of deaths from the Tac AR were not done by people using modded controllers. If the only concern was a modded controller, there could have been a few tweaks like lowering the RoF or increasing the kick slightly. The rifle is now just outclassed by many other ARs and weapons.
It was more of that the majority of people who QQd on forums because of deaths from Tac ARs thought that they died from someone using a modded controller, and that they were just OP in general.
edit: kind of like what happened to missile turrets and dropships. They were destroyed instead of tweaked- hopefully it'll all get fixed soonish, they were cool weapons ;) |

Problem was that when people died from TARs, they were screaming "cheater", "modded controller" etc - then, as you observe, CCP decided to listen to the people dying instead of those using the TARs.
Would be simple for CCP to determine if people were using modded controllers - sustain, high rates of firing TARs in the logs would point to this immediately. |

Yah, but I have to give CCP credit for recent changes. I've noticed that many of the people who are good at the game are not forum warriors, so they make their point and leave, or write nothing at all. I think CCP is getting more selective with changes, and making them gradually over time to see how they work out.
It's a good idea to check the Tac rifle every now and then to see if it has been changed. |

It's a good idea to check the Tac rifle every now and then to see if it has been changed. From recent impressions - not much changed if anything since the reset.
The quiet majority (and pretty sure that majority aren't on forum or IRC) needs a voice, and this is what most games have deep logging for; CCP needs to listen to the logs, not the forum-warriors.
Finally, I'm a TAR user by preference, so I'm biased: They should, gently, decrease the kick :) |

If not then don't use the gun. It has a scope.
All ARs kick too much. That is why the AR Operations benefit is Reduced Kick. Hip fire makes it worse. One must Stop shooting before using L1 (Aim) as the Kick will just continue and the longer you kick the more you will kick. |

You might want to double check that. The tooltip was wrong a little bit ago. I'm not sure if they fixed it yet. |
