yes but depending on free time/ effort you can use in game isk to pay for your subscription, you may have to pay for a couple of months to get your skills up though.

Yes, just had my yearly charge, it was $150. Or so...
But I have seen players in game play and pay for monthly subs with PLEX(Pilot License EXtension), which are market items which Players buy and sell in the game.
So in theory, if you had the time, you could play and use game earnings to buy you monthly extension to subscriptions. |

yeah i think i paid for the first few months, and then i was in uni for 4 years so had plenty of time to build up a small fortune and can easily afford to PLEX (pay for with in game isk) my 2 accounts.
and now once you can get to this level i can basically passively make this isk now i don't have much time to play now full time job/GF/DUST
EDIT: in answer to your question yes, there is always lots on the market, but as a newbie it might be hard to afford straight away |

Plex go for 450-550 million isk each on the market, so loaning one to somebody you hardly know is a risk not many will take |

isk is a lot easier to earn in eve, a well skilled player can easily earn enough for a PLEX in a day

A new player can easily earn 1 billion in his first month, if he is a skill marketer. |

yeah trading is really good at getting isk, can be really addictive too, its just getting the starting capital can be a bit slow |

Ive been playing eve sense launch, you can check out my main character his name is Jonasan Mikio, here are my tips...
First off join a corp that understands how to make money and still pvp (like mine)
Secound, it honestly will be 1 or 2 months before you can reliably make enough money for plexes, anything before that will take alot of work and a fair amount of luck.

Yes, Eve has a monthly subscription and well worth it, IMO. I played for many years before PLEXes existed and the content, depth, and general way CCP handles their world has always been worth the $12-15 (whatever it is these days).
I agree and cannot stress enough the benefits of getting with an experienced corp that can guide you in and show you the ropes. Some corps are newbie friendly, some are not. You will probably run across some good corps in Eve by playing Dust.
I don't agree that 1-2 month is enough time to be able to PLEX with a new account without the support of vets. It may be physically possible, but the time investment you'll need to grind that kind of ISK (even for a gifted marketeer) is prohibitive to 99% of people and too much like a J.O.B. Eve is also brutal by nature, so just when you think you have things figured out some jerk (like me) will wipe you clean for a good laugh. Every once in a while I create a new character and build without any corporate ties and it serves as a good reminder how tough it can be to start fresh and alone even with nearly ten years experience with game mechanics.
In any case, do the trial. If it sticks to the ribs and you can afford a 6-month block, thats probably a good way to start.
