The reason for throwing the tourney was to bring attention to Dust especially from the Eve side of things and promote the game and to create some excitement and focus within the Dust community.
http://community.eveonline.com/news/newsFromEve.asp?newsTitle=dust-514-eve-bombardment-tournament-round-2-this-weekendRight now we are in a holding pattern WAITING for Faction Warfare to be improved and Nullsec to be established. A lot of people are having build fatigue and looking for something to do. If the tourney helps create drive for people playing the game then there you go.
I guess the real question is WHY NOT arrange a tournament. This is just the tip of the iceberg of what the community can do by working together. If certain organizations want to remain outside of participating in the community that's fine. Multiple people have approached me wanting to do their own events once this tournament has concluded and that's awesome. I've purchased the domain NewEdenSports.com and will be looking to have the community come together so that more events like this will be possible.
The community has sponsored over $100 worth of prizes for the event and that doesn't event touch on what CCP has sponsored as well.
Eve has really turned some eyes onto this game because of the tourney and I have something special planed for this weekend to really tie things together with the Tourney and the OB Events. As it stands the total betting pools for the tournament has surpassed 3 Billion ISK. The ISK grand prize for the Closed Beta Tournament run by CCP was 250 Million ISK.
You can choose to sit on the sidelines and wait for life to happen or you can get off the bench, get in the thick of it, and do everything in your power to improve the situation and create excitement where it may be lacking. I 'm happy that over 2,000 Mercs across over a dozen corporations have decided to participate in this tournament. They have put in tons of time to get their teams together, work on scheduling matches, and go the extra mile by placing videos out there to show people competitive play in Dust. I'm just glad that they have allowed me to help things along, because it's the Mercs on they ground and the community that is responsible for the true success of this event not me.
