No. What I'm trying to convey is that a weapon that requires less skill and dishes out more power is in place for a reason. The Assault Rifle is a pretty hot topic as everyone wants to nerf it, it doesn't require much skill (it really doesn't) to utilize and it can be brutally efficient when used correctly. Just aim and shoot and it takes care of the rest of the work for you.
However, there are other avenues that require a lot more skill and have proportionate (or disproportionate) levels of power involved. If you've seen any of my other posts I'll constantly refer to these as "specialization weapons" as you have to have a certain playstyle in order to use them effectively.
A Shotgun, for instance requires a high degree of skill and it does give you a marked advantage but it's not something so jostling as to take over the game. Why is that? It's got remarkably low range unless you specifically choose that path as your particular strategy. Unless you directly overcome the initial pitfalls of the weapon, it's not a very good choice to start out with when fighting against older, more experienced Dust mercs. The range is terrible, the damage is alright but most of all the dropsuit you're using directly affects how the weapon performs in terms of movement speed.
Sure, you -could- go Heavy with a Shotgun but it wouldn't be very well advised unless you (the player) have some difficulty utilizing another suits trademarks, such as the Scout with it's fast movement speed and fast turn speed. You have to be able to hone yourself (your skill) to dial in on that playstyle, otherwise you'll overshoot your aim when you try to make a sharp turn and fire on a target.
I've seen the above happen PLENTY of times when fighting against Shotgun Scouts. Sometimes the player just doesn't have the skill required in order to get used to that style.
To paraphrase, I'll say this: Weapons that require a proportionate amount of skill (like the Laser Rifle as you said) aren't necessarily better or worse than another weapon such as the Assault Rifle. It's set in place so that in the right hands it seems more powerful and in the wrong hands it seems very weak. There isn't a weapon in game that can currently just tear through anything. To which I'd say the Assault Rifle and HMG come closest but those are solely because of the style used: Aim, fire. |
