I've been trying out a Soma tank build (I know, I know, militia stuff) and I find it quite a bit of fun. Should I follow through with investing SP into an actual tank? If so, what should I spec for, and what modules/weapons should I get? |

rule of thumb, get the skills of the the mods before getting the skills of the vehicle.
you want to get at least some level of large turret. you definitely will need armor adaptation skill at least once so you can get the active armor hardeners for armor tanks. it's the key to taking damage.
the good thing about militia tanks is that they can use all this stuff so while you try the equipment out and better yourself as a tank pilot you have some platform to check and see all the different stuff you can use. i went ahead and leveled out the PG/CPU skills to get the most out of the vehicles and have more play room for fitting before leveling anything else. As said before, max out your mods and get at least the 80j scattered blaster.
Do not skimp on your tank fittings, even soma's can be nasty when fit good.
Do not go for shield tank, shields are trash.
You need to get a propulsion mod for your tank as well, the cool down on them is short, they run a long time and this will dramatically increase your moving start speed which is very important.
You need to get your turret upgrades up, there are mods that are active for high slot only that will reduce heat build up per shot, the 50% mod costs about 100k isk, but means you can shoot almost twice as long as a tank without it.
Resistance plates are very important, they last for 60 sec cool down for 15. Let's just say with some of my fits I get 84% resistance on my tank with 6600 buffer and a heavy rep.
If your using tanks before your skills are up to par, your wasting isk.
The vehicle skill should be the last thing you train.
After you get the hardners and blaster you can use the soma if you want, but don't stay there long.
More questions, feel free to ask, I'm actively watching.
I understand how your getting the 6.600 because gallente tanks start with more armor then caldari do shield plus have larger armor modules they can put on but how are you getting 84% shield resistance it would take way to many modules for that number. |

Here's my buddy's tank manual. He's a pretty good tank driver, trust me on this one:
