Unsure wheter its been suggested before but I'd like a system put in that if a Squad leader (This applies to Pub Squads, not pre-made) doesn't use their Orbital in a set amount of time it rollsover to the entire squad or next person. I hate to see Orbitals go unused and wasted, especially in Skirmish matches where one could get you a free Null Cannon. Wheter its because the leader doesn't notice they had it or just doesn't know how to use it.
This way we might see more Orbitals in matches. |

The other issue is trying to get the random blues to cover you while you select the target of you OB, obviously you dont want to plonk it anywhere so you need to study the map and wait for that pime moment, but half the time im shot in the head whilst trying.
In corp battle its down to the corpies to inform on wasteful leaders and ensure a better candidate is put in place.. |

I was just thinking this. If the squad leader ignores it for too long it should become available to whoever earned the bulk of the WP.
The only problem is when the SL is intentionally sitting on it for an optimal time, but I would hope that squadmates wouldn't steal it in that situation. |

I think the roll of Squad Leader should go to the player with the most 'Squad Leader Commision' points in the first place, this probably wouldn't be as big as a problem then. |

I don't think I would favor this. Orbitals are a privilege and therefore only the Squad Leader should have this control. Besides, who is to say that the best squad mate down the chain is not a spy/teamkiller? If the Squad Leader doesn't use the orbital when it's available and has a spotty record of doing so, then it's the corporation's responsibility to ensure other members don't get squaded up with that player (informing everyone via Dust mail or chat) unless he redeems himself.
EDIT:
Besides, if that person is in the Squad Leader position for the player-run corp, then the corp places trust on that player to do his job as squad leader. Some corps tend to let some of their newbies try out that position to test their worth and to see if they have what it takes to lead a squad. |

I think keep em with the SL only. An average grunt never calls in air support with an active SL so why would a mercenary corps suddenly allow low rank to use high/expensive assets?
With newberries, yes it can be frustrating, but time to teach em. And for getting shot in the head while trying to call in a strike... that's just dumb luck, or good luck if I was able to shoot you first. |

So long as we're earning it with WP, we need a HUD element to tell us when it's available. Half of the issue seems to be SLs not knowing that they are even squad leader, let alone that they have the WP to fire off an Orbital. |

I think leadership should be something that is earned/skilled into. So if someone wants the ability to rain fire from the sky, it should be something that they have to work towards. It would eliminate players being randomly assigned leadership roles in game without them knowing about it. That way everyone who's an SL will know that they are. I hate to bring other FPS games up, but MAG had a pretty good idea for it. Leadership had to be earned, and then applied for, before a match started. If no one applies, then no is SL for the match, and your squad suffers from the lack additional points/options that a SL can bring to bear.
As for the OP, since OB's are earned by obtaining WP's, why not have a "WP's as a currency" system? It would give them a purpose beyond the arcade style "I have a higher score than you" dynamic that they currently have. It wouldn't have to affect the ISK and SP awarded at the end of a match, becuase the system could keep track of how many WP's you earned as well as how many WP's you used. We already have the system in regard to ISK and SP's, so I don't see how it would be any more difficult to apply it to WP's. SL's and Commanders would then have more options at the start of the match. Or maybe an entirely new Stat called Leadership Points, that could do the same thing, but only be available to people who have earned/skilled into leadership roles. So the extra points that you earn by having people follow your orders would apply to WP's as well as LP's, with LP's being treated as a kind of currency that can be used during matches. |

I've had an idea for a regenerating WP bar that functioned like EndWar's (that RTS game with the mic) Command Point system. In a nutshell, the bar fills up slowly, but you fill it faster by completing objectives and just being a squad of good killers. Then you can spend it on installations and orbital support. Squad leaders get the smallest bar, while the MCC commander (future development) gets a WP bar big enough to build a veritable castle in mere seconds, or nuke one from orbit even faster. Also, leadership skills can be used to increase the maximum value of this bar by a given percent. |
