Its starts with a snowball.
You notice that one side is is stacked with two whole squads of organised player corps. Your playing solo, you've got to go out into the real world 30 minutes and your life is so busy that when you join a corp your on so little you seem inactive.
The game starts and you run to the first objective. Meanwhile the well-meaning blueberries are getting one shotted by forge guns in thier crappy LAVs.
The snowball loosen the piste and the whole slope starts to move.
The GEK 38 killspam starts. And while you manage to get some of them squadded player corp guys, your blueberry friends are so clueless you start shouting at the tv screen things like "Hack the Objective", "Turn around" "WHY ARE YOU RUNNING THAT WAY", you might even try plugging in the mike (if not already one), but nobody is listening, because nobody has thier mic on.
Sick of dieing your newberry friend starts hanging at the back (even though they are in militia suits and death costs them nothing) sniping ineffectively.
A whole sheet of snow starts to cascade down the mountain.
All the objectives are now red. But still you try with maybe the last quarter of decent players and maybe if your lucky a mid-skilled squad or PUG.
Then it starts. Full blown avalanche.
Orbital strike at every capture point you try to reclaim.
========================
After a few weeks of open beta I've noticed that is game has several issues with core gameplay that makes instant battles NOT fun. For either side. It has absolutely nothing to do with weapon balance. Its has to do with how battles are fought. Its can be boiled down to two main issues:
1) Matchmaking is broken. Squad stacking is so bad now that you can litertally tell if your going to win or lose before the battle starts. Victory is literally decided in the first 30 seconds, rendering the whole point of a game moot. I think the issue is that organised communal players have really nowhere else to go. I've been on both sides of these battles, the victorys are cheap and boring, the losses are frustrating and seem unfair. Rare is the battles thats fought tooth and claw to the end, every battle in dust should be hard fought not decided in the first minute.
2) Orbital stikes in instant battles should not be based on warpoints. All thats happening is that winners win harder, it does nothing for the tactical element of the game, simply because it makes it harder for a side thats losing to claw back. At present its too easy for people to see that one objective that might let you claw back is being hacked and drop an OS on it. Personally I think the area of effect on OS is too high, and there is no visual cue to show were its gonna drop. Its the only mechanic in the game in which there is no defence against. Even the fastest scout can't run to the edge of the area of effect. There is not time to get out.
Solutions? Ideas? Suggestions?
(Please avoid comments like: Get a squad, get a corp, get skills or whatever. I'm not talking about my personal skill level Im talking about the whole range of players being lumped into one battle type and yes I know that this may change in the future.) |

AD 1. Match making isnt broken as you sugest. Why? Because some of players know what to do? Let every new player play with new player and you think that help them leave kindergarden? No. They stays at the same level as they start. Only ones that willing to do someting will see and learn how and where they can help. Let them see where they are and where they can go. Pain, forge good soldiers.
or
Let them stay in kindergarden and after few months you will still saw situations like ' Hey man why you hack our bases, we just only fine sniping each other and that is this game for'. This is what you want?
AD 2. For now orbitals cost 2500wp. You still need do a lot of things to get this. There was a time that OB cost 1200wp OB hurts, because ppl use it to hurts more. They are 'precious' tactical options - remember. For defending objectives RE is more popular and easy to use. |

As soon as I see this I just quite the game nowadays or do nothing to get credits near the warbarge, trying to be a mountaineer in some free suits. It's one of the few things that makes the game no fun to play and causes people to quit. I've been saying they need split queues for Squads and Solo/Duo people for a while, but it seems like CCP likes the pubstomp better than fun gameplay for everyone. |

You missed my point.
Your point about match making: In my experience 1 in every 3 games is a total curb stomp, mainly because of squad stacking. So your basically saying everything is fine? That is okay that 2 or more full squads of your corporate brothers should be allowed to curb stomp a bunch of noobies and solo players. That is is fun and everything is fine. If the system that runs match making thinks its okay to stick two or more full squads with players who average 35/5 and 3000 wp a game against a bunch of solo new players PUG peeps or new corps. That my friend, is the very defination of "somethings gone wrong".
I never said an OB shouldn't hurt, the issue, as the title thread suggests, is that winning, getting warpoints, should not be a prerequisite for a weapon of mass destruction, sorry I wasn't clear on this (you seemed to have missed it). The result of this system, is that it unbalances further a system thats broken and the contest between the two teams become pointless. The winners win harder, it does nothing for the game, infact if your winning I would argue that an OB is pointless as all it does is boost a squad leaders Kills. The orbital strike should be a tactical option for squad leaders to remove concentrations of infantry, destroying a tank column etc. At present, due to the holistic issues with the game, its used to protect the closest capture points to the redline at the midpoint of the battle during a 'victory avalanche.'
Anyway Jack Ive noticed you on the EU servers, Ive seen you bailing in the ready room when you've noticed a squad stacking on the opposing side.
Id rather have better balance in the core game. Wouldn't you? I want to have pulse pounding fun I don't want to be on the stacked side anymore than the side that losses after 1 minute. Having battles decided in the opening shots arn't fun. Is that what you really want? Are you just all about the isk and SP?

I dont miss your point.
:)
The truth is in the middle.
This is not easy game for ppl that want easy game.
Maybe I'm little masohistic here and I play every game that I can got, even when 'bad match making' put me alone in match with NA serwer with 2 squad of imperfect. (lag + good players + no support) So what - after my k/d 12:9 or 9:12 is bad or good? Dont care and I play more.
And this is after almost 8 months here. Countles of beating from enemies and friends, but every bad game give me thinking what I can do better.
You can easily check my stats. I'm assure you that stats are comming from every game (I do not leave when things go wrong as some) and this is better from build to build. Somehow I like go alone to unknow and help blueberies showing them how they can play. And for this game (solo) matchmaking go well - I dont see much differences in skils (sp) or disadventages.
If you talking about matchmaking with squad... you must know what you do :) and this is another different level of playing here.
And ... we all dies at the end. Get used to it.
