seriously, something needs to be done to improve them.
Sure you can get 800+ Points of armor, but that don't matter when the best passive regen you can have is about 12 HP/s and you'll have a 18+% speed penalty.
And you still get chopped to bits by everything.
What can be done to fix the Armor Heavy? |

Don't apply plates to your armor heavy. Reps are the way to go.
Be smart about how you engage. Really smart. Don't go out in the open if you think it's a serious risk and be picky about who you're going to charge in on.
Play in a defensive posture when possible. It lets the superior EHP of armor suits do its job. |

If they increase there resists to explosives as it says in the description; they would be more useful. |

the thing is, I don't notice any difference in the amount of damage Shields or Armor eat. It seems like they deplete at the same rate.
I cannot see a reason anyone would fly as an Armor Heavy. You're out HP'd if you don't use Armor boosters, your AP regens laughably slow, and you get a massive movement penalty if you add more armor.
The way it is now, The best layout is simple a Type 2 with 2 damage mods. Shields heavies are so good that you don't need any shield enhancements at all. |

I cannot see a reason anyone would fly as an Armor Heavy. You're out HP'd if you don't use Armor boosters, your AP regens laughable slow, and you get a massive movement penalty if you add more armor. Speccing into Field Mechanics will give you a hefty boost in armor without putting a drain on your suit or movement speed. And you should engage from cover as much as possible, or at least in an environment where your HMG is at its most effective, otherwise ARs are going to give you a bad time.
Armor suits with repps have an advantage in a gunfight because they don't have to wait out a fight for their stats to start coming back up. Heavies have abysmally slow shield recharge rates, so fitting good reppers is a better solution for drawn out gunfights. Armor also leaves you less vulnerable to flux grenades, which are a serious threat to shield-tankers.
Stacking armor will also leave you less vulnerable to Lasers. While they will not eliminate the range advantage the laser will have, an armor suit gives you more time to find cover and rep up.
Please note that a heavy will always be most effective when acting in a supporting role, or when being supported by a unit with a repair tool. They do not make effective lonewolf suits.
Also, the armor heavy actually has more health than the shield heavy, especially once you put points into field mechanics for the +20(25?)% armor bonus. The advantage of the shield heavy is that it's faster, which makes it better for aggressive play and moving around the battlefield. |

As the good Jotun said, Armor variant suits are pretty much solely defensive suits. I typically use a Type-A with a Forge Gun since i'll be away from the mainstay of the action, hunting vehicles.
If you're HMG'ing with an Armor variant suit, i'd probably recommend switching (for now) until they do something to the armor.
I've mentioned several times tthat the damage resistance should be higher....*sigh* but to no avail. |

do those thing even work? I swear I see these little blue explosions splash against my Suit like summer rain and absolutely nothing happens other than someone in front of me getting a face full of HMG. |

It's more of a graphical issue- for standard ones, the blast radius is smaller than what the animation shows it as. |

Nope. They are fine, you just need to have a logi friend. We can rep nearly 40/sec and if you die we can instantly get 50% to 80% of your armor back. Then all of the shield heavies can suck it. |

Shield heavies are also at an advantage in 1v1 since the HMG does increased damage to armor and decreased damage to shields. |

I personally run 2 complex extenders on it. 500 shield is awesome
Damage mods are nice but my preference is Health over dmg. |
