Well it has come to my attention that there are a few bunnies here that don't understand dust 514's or New Eden's role play.
Now it may be a bit unfair but 100% of both player bases are role players, you're playing as an every day 'person' as far as either game is concerned, a free lance mercenary, a veteran of previous wars (ie other games), or a conscript in a larger military organization. While eve online has quite a few more flavors of just 'being yourself' dust 514 plays right into that just as much though.
This is the whole reason why alien races don't exist in new eden as playable. Because you really can't everyday average joe an alien, but you can certainly everyday average joe a human.
This argument could be said though about just about any other shooter, playing as captain prince in call of duty, or the Master Cheif in halo, the very major difference is that you're given the pen, you write the next page.
Most people choose the boring route, leave it blank or give the pen to someone else in eve online; well in the latter is typically more entertaining https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ns9oAGnK9CU
However there is those folks then there are our 'roleplayers,' in the more traditional sense, the guys who eat up the lore and regurgitate the language and actions befitting of them.
What makes New Eden's role players so much different? The choices of role play mostly involve killing average joe or other role player. Those who role play as Guristas pirates typically camp Jita 4-4 or other important caldari hubs 'just because' its every attempt to fight the state and you may wind up an unfortunate victim of them one day. Or player organizations like CVA that side very heavily with the Amarrians to the point of xenophobic and blowing anything up that isnt' amarrian. Or ursha khan a minmatar rebellion group.
Take this old ancient gem for example
Battle Clinic wrote: "Chaos is spreading around EVE as the consequence of Doriam's II assassination. The Amarr Emperor was slain last night in the Imperial Palace in Dam Torsad by an unknown assailant. The Imperial Chancellery is heading the investigation, with aid from the Ministry of Internal Order. Amarr police has rounded up a few suspects, believed to be foreigners, and is currently questioning them at an unknown location.
At the daily morning meeting of the Chief Executive Panel, the leaders of the Caldari State were unanimous in condemning this 'appalling atrocity and attack on the political harmony of the world.' They also appreciated the need for the harsh response of the Empire in shutting down several border zones and stated they would do the same to keep radicals from exploiting the situation to their advantage.
The Privy Council also held a session this morning, but what transpired there is still a mystery. Sin Callor of the Ministry of Internal Order and a member of the Council let is slip though that 'Doriam's death will drive many shadowy elements to the surface.' We hope future events will cast light on those elusive words.
This here, was done by a player. A player killed the previous Amarrian emperor, permanently and because of that threw out 4 months of story writing out the window and replaced it with the events of today that have lead to empress jayml sarum being in charge. While this is ancient news its hard to find out who the pilot responsible was and eve news typically only mentions players generically as possible the ship verified to have done the assassination (a tempest) was being auction when I joined eve.
While you may not care or want anything to do with role play, I will say this, just like anything else in New Eden that does not stop them from ruining your day. If CVA thinks your little colony is a disgrace to their god empress, they will raze it to the ground until there is nothing left, and before you know it... you're role playing as well as either the hapless victim or being that disgrace to their god. |

I would like role playing in Dust better if I could actually play my role. I know they're working on it, but right now CCP's definition of role-playing in Dust makes it extremely pointless. |

I wont argue with that there, the dust box is lacking quite a few tools. None the less we just had another event for participants and a few more people sucked into the lore. |

Trust in Rust.
Death to all Amarrians and an end to their ridiculous fairy stories. When we came to New Eden there was no God here to welcome us, only the vast coldness of space... and Rust, so much Rust. |

I enjoy the RP aspect, in fact, I've lately found myself trying to tie this character in with my EVE char (currently inactive) and think I may have found a way...
we should have an RP forum here, where we can nerd out without all the naysayers :P
I wonder, if I can write up a convincing enough story that would impact lore (albeit in a rather small way initially) would CCP possibly make it lore, (names excluded of course) and possibly run with it? |

It is my experience that there is very little difference between a role player and a non role player on coms during a battle. It may be a game, but someone is really shooting at you in your virtual reality, and if you care about your virtual life you will react just as you would if it was real.
I listened to the 9 minute recording from the fire fighterGÇÖs radio coms when that crazy shot up those fire fighters in the States a while back. It sounded a lot like listening to Coms in EVE during a battle. |
