Hello. I've been playing with tanks recently, and I find there to be a few issues, personally, with the mentioned weapon.
First of all, the Forge gun can be slightly overpowered at times. Once, I took a militia forge gun, the one that's supposed to be the Civilian sort of equipment, and climbed up high where I could see quite a lot of the map. The reason I had done this was because of a pesky Sagaris. Quite a formidable tank, it could take quite a few hits. However I was up high, and tanks in Dust have trouble with this. Sometimes the crosshair for a tank's weapon don't represent accurately where the shots will land, so that 's a problem for him. Another issue is that when the tank is somewhere below you, he probably wont be able to shoot you at all since his gun can't aim that high, so another layer of difficulty. I just picked off the sorry guy as he was running away from me while I just shot him with my gun. I see a problem here, as that was a high end tank destroyed by militia equipment. We need some sort of nerffing on not just the militia forge gun, but ALL forge guns. 1200 damage, with pinpoint accuracy? That's ridiculous, even with the strange lag of the blast.
TL;DR People can shoot from mountains with a gun that does 1200 damage in a single shot. It's like the missles all over again. |

Ironically the proto varient isn't much more powerful. just shorter charge time. |

Forge guns are fine. Well equipped tanks can take a pounding. Maybe a 10% reduction in power for the militia variant, but leave the other ones alone. Against a good tank it would take 2 or more forge gunners to destroy it. |

I don't mind the large damage. An AV 'nade could do 1200. What I -do- mind is that they can fire from VERY far away. The Swarm launchers take a few seconds to get from point A to B, which is quite nice. If they get close enough, then the tank at least has a chance at not dying.

Much of your post was about a good tactic and knowing the weaknesses of a tank, so the fact, that you could take out that high-end-tank, was related to skill (and luck - no sniper shot you up there?).
But I see a point in what you are saying: Swarms have a max. range and FG seem not to have one. And because of the high energy, which is released with one shot, the recoil seems to be far to less, so that you really can snipe. I don't say, that you should miss a Tank with 10m at a range of 100m but maybe at the range of 1km, because for a slow-moving infantry range matters. |
