This is not a jet pack thread. I'll say it again....this is NOT about jet packs. (although I do make a reference to jet packs in the description, it is clearly not a jet pack....please keep reading)
This is an idea for a miniature propulsion system in each dropsuit; which acts differently then a jetpack. This idea is intended for all suits and, if possible, new suits and future released suits. NO SUIT DISCRIMINATION. Everyone has a fair shot at using this, and it will be the same regardless of suit type.
It can be either a module to equip or not...up to CCP. This idea is under the assumption that it is not a module. For the sake of some "fans" wanting a description about this system, I will attempt to provide one for you. This is not cannon, it can be changed and modified as see fit; this is just a description that would make the idea more appealing to you.
Dropsuit S.A.V.E (Solar Augmented Vector Emitter) System Created for planetary and asteroid farming, the SAVE system was originally intended for miners to maneuver the vastness of empty space to collect either scraps or savaged parts too small for the average frigate to collect and handle, or to obtain floating ores blasted by mining beams that would other wise destroy the precious materials. However, the SAVE system has gone through massive changes in model design and performance enhancements.
The large jetpack like design quickly vanished as Dropsuit technology provided smaller and compact modules that weight less and require less burden of the suit that is using it. Advancements in this field of technology allows the SAVE system to be used on terrestrial planets, which opens the possibility to be used in the battlefields as well as planetary mining operations. Coupled with nanite technology, augmented CPU processors, and high saturated solar panels the regeneration of energy, required by each of the eight small hand sized warp drives (SWD), builds up at a astonishing 10 gJ per second; giving more then enough energy to push a fully loaded dropsuit a significant distance before the eight SWD cool off.
Orientation of the direction of each SWD faces is determined by a link established to and from the host suit; sending live feed back from the suit's helmet straight into the SAVE main motherboard module. Once activated each SWD lines up accordingly to the direction the host is facing and a burst of energy (similar to that of warp drive propulsion systems) provides small lift and force to move the host and load. To prevent fast heat build up, each of the small warp drives have an automatic shut off feature that, when reaching a certain threshold of heat, "cut" off power from the solar panels. Nanites reestablish connection when the heat falls bellows another threshold line.
Due to the small design disturbances in the warp field between each individual SWD can lead to propulsion in an un-oriented manner, which can cause movement is opposite directions and can lead to the suit being damaged mid travel.
[Note: the last little bit of the description doesn't mean it's going to happen (lore gore)]
I intend for this idea to have a skill book to be activated before it can be used. (similar to how Hand Held Combat has no items it unlocks, but provides a bonus to your suit.) The price to activate the skill book would be significantly high, on par with skill books of dropsuits. Prerequisites will be needed to activate the book. Each book level will have a bonus cool down time. (NO SPEED BOOST OR DISTANCE BOOST. This will lead to overpoweredness and abuse and rage rage rage).
This doesn't answer ALL the requests for jet packs and what not, but it is an alternative (or rather combination) to having jet packs in game. Small evasion request plus a fun feature that people could enjoy. It's usable and practical and it makes sense within the EVE universe.
TLDR: A propulsion system that pushes you a small distance and to act as an evasion tool, or any other way you see fit. Cool down and heat build up prevent overuse. Skill book required to unlock with prerequisites. Cost to unlock out-weight the efficiency of the feature; meaning that you can still fight and not be overpowered by someone who has unlocked it.

holy hell... if i could i'd hand you 10 likes, this is an amazing **** inf the idea of the Inertial Jump Packs and the [loathesome] idea of Jetpacks, thought out in a way that makes sense in EvE, its amazing to read it all...
you sir, have a grand idea and neds to have a serious look taken at it, i cannot see a hole, glitch or manner of abuse possible |

Thank you. I have read the Inertial Jump Packs post before...and I felt like it was lacking something.

I like the inertial capacitor idea better https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=55686&find=unread |

I did too. But I could not create a clear picture of what it would look and do. What is it that you like better about the intertia capacitor idea? |

The capacitor idea is like short range teleportation with a charge. Original poster says it should look like something you hold with both hands and aim where you want to go, though how it looks doesn't matter.
I'm not sure, but is your idea meant to be instant? or is there travel time? if instant (like teleportation), then its kind of the same as the inertial capacitor idea. |

My idea is not an instant teleportation. Teleporting is meant for drop uplinks in my opinion.
This will have travel distance, not time. Did the "warp drive" lingo confuse you? If so, I could reword it.
Time implies that you can use the system for longer then what you intend to use it for. Time means fuel, and with the sample description I've post it's not running on fuel but quick bursts of energy. In a sense, once you've traveled the distance the cool down (or recharge) starts and you can use it again later. You will visually see yourself moving at a relative fast speed before coming to a gradual halt. The cooldown time will be relatively lengthy to prevent massive spam. Ballpark cool down would be about 2 minutes or so, nothing too long, but not that short either. Skill book levels will reduce cooldown time.
Same speed, same distance, quick execution evasive maneuver is what I'm aiming for. It's not meant for use for long periods of time. Plus, fussing with another module or equipment just to evade will probably annoy not only me but other players as well. |

Yeah, I like the capacitor idea better, I want to zappity zap to locations instantly after charging. Though, I be happy with whatever I get; jetpack, jumppack, inertial capacitor, SAVE, I want something like this. |

Just to add to the original idea.. This is not meant to be a small transportation system. This is suppose to be a roll/dodge/evasion system. I've just added the idea of jet packs in here to give it some flair. |
