The word "Mercenary" has some negative connotation following, so I am wondering how Mercenaries are considered in New Eden. Any ideas? |

if they took a look at our forums my guess is new eden would consider us to be a bunch of self entitled babies and brats crying nightly for our bottles and fighting over bread crumbs |

Watch Spartacus. That'll give you a general idea. Gods of the Arena and about three quarters of Blood and Sand anyway. |

If you mean mercs in general, i've got no idea but if you mean how do pod pilots regard dust bunnies?
"get to the back of the bus" springs to mind, also "we don't serve your kind in here"
They are desperately afraid dust will be successful and cause CCP to stop caring about them, there is probably a term for it in child psychology journals.

They'll be considered along the line of Capsuleers. A lot of New Eden do not like Capsuleers due to their low morality, that tends to come with essentially being immortal. |

some mercs in eve are respected greatly, iirc pandemic legion are still mercanaries and they are considered by many to be the best pvpers in the game. |

Non Pod Citizens (NPCs) generall have a good disdain for things that are immortals. As for the ground soldiers they consider us a bunch of freaks, unnatural, and should not belong. |

Only a certain element feels that way, and they have no less a sense of entitlement than I often see here.
I think many of us recognize that Dust is an advancement on EVE and capable of changing the game in many way, for the better. A select group of pilots is afraid that it will damage the game, (or their game at least), but I'm fairly certain a number of them are coming around somewhat as they see Dust developing alongside of EVE.
Personally, I see Dust and EVE being capable of merging on the level of Avatar gameplay, and even see the potential for EVE players to enter Dust-like activities in PvE environments and step out of their space ships for awhile when they feel the desire to do so.
Avatar gameplay has been discussed thoroughly in the EVE forums, and there are a large percentage of players who see the need for it. The development and integration of Dust with EVE offers a potential for co-development of Avatar gameplay using the technology that has gone into developing Dust as part of EVE.
Dust reduces development costs in EVE through its own development while providing this model, yet stands alone as its own game in many respects, and likely always will. Even should it eventually be available not only on PS console but on PC, this will likely be the case. I can't see any reason why that should change.
Combined development of both games however, makes it possible to merge aspects from one game with the other, providing a broadening array of content for both games. At some point, I can see EVE and Dust players walking the same halls, in the same stations on Tranquility, while EVE players fight in FPS PvE environments on the Dust Battle servers as part of an extension of Avatar game play.
There's nothing wrong with this. It advances both games to a point where they effectively become one, while still retaining their separate identities.
P.S: I want hunting expeditions. Large nasty beasts, on seldom visited planets, that I can hunt to bring back trophies for my war room. ..I also want a sword. ..for my EVE character on both counts. |
