Hello
I've been told that's it's a good idea to spend a good part of the 500k starting SP As a general rule what should i train and at which level, skill that will alway be usefull whatever way i specialise afterward (planning to use mass driver as i was good with thumper in planetside 1 ) |

start with arbiter class. Get complex shield extenders. Work on your dropsuit and put a few levels into whatever weapon you desire.
If you want to go vehicles, I recommend putting zero points into infantry abilities. Eventually you'll use infantry skills, but if you want to practice operating whatever vehicle you desire, it makes more sense to do that and only that at first. I made alts, but I think I might just grind that 1,500 XP/match now. Not really sure. I love my alts, but an extra bunch of SP every day adds up. I figure if I do ten games a day after I hit my cap, that's 15,000 xp/day. Doing that for a number of days @.@ |

It depends on how you want to get your hands dirty. Core skills that give passive boosts to shields, shield regeneration, armor, CPU, and PG are beneficial across the board, but if you want to be infantry or vehicle, that's where you'll divert paths from what other people will tell you. If you want to drive a tank for example, you probably will be less concerned with dropsuit skills. I'm not a tank driver or a dropship pilot, though, so that's just a guess. |

You want to max your core skills, ASAP. Most people ignore them, and it ends up biting them in the ass later. Core Skills are as follows,
Combat Engineering (+5% PG/level) Circuitry (+5% CPU/level) Weaponry (+2% weapon damage/level) Dropsuit Command (-5% Signature per level, this makes you harder to detect, plus it unlocks dropsuit skills) Field Mechanics (+5% Armor/level) Shield Control (+5% Shield/level, this one's tricky because it requires Shield Boost Systems 4, and it's a 3X multiplier)
Basically, all these NEED TO GET TO LEVEL 5!!! Like seriously, no joke. These will let you fit just about anything on your suits and vehicles, plus make them that much more survivable, deadly, and hidden. These may seem like a haul, and they are, but it's better to use starting skill points to get ahead, rather than to wait, and take 3 odd months to max them out.
Also, all but Shield Control are 1X multipliers, so they're all relatively low-cost skills. |

Core skills (IMO) for the standard infantryman;
-In order of priority- Weapony lv5 Shield boost lv4 (Once obtained, shield control takes priority) Field mechanics lv5 Light/heavy Sharpshooter lv3 min
Initially, max out weaponry for the 10% weapon damage, then alternate between the others in terms of the listed priority and depending on which is cheaper; ie, spread your points out and raise each one in turn, don't hold on to 100k sp when your next shield level is twice that and you haven't yet gotten any field mechanics.
Secondary core skills; Dropsuit command Vigor Profile dampening Long range scanning Profile analysis Primary weapon skill
The secondary skills are things you might want to look into on the side whilst building up your primaries. They are useful, though don't necessarily increase your outright survivability with immediate affect like the core skills. You may wish to bump your weapon skill up the list depending on what weapon you want to use and how good you feel you are with it (I myself mostly run ARs, lasers, and shotguns, and only my AR is lv2 currently, and yet I still do well with it).
Ignore what other people say about circuitry and engineering, you only need to boost those as and when you desperately require more cpu/pg, until then they do nothing to help you on the battlefield.
Skills to ignore;
Light weapon/sidearm rapid reload (most of these weapons have such low reload times that even maxed this skill only removes around half a second) Sidearm upgrades (doesn't make enough difference to cpu to matter) Armour repair (unless you desperately want to run a higher tier repairer, this skill will not make enough difference to your basic repairer)
There are probably a few other useless ones I've missed, but I can't recall them all now and it's late. |

idk why everyone maxes out weaponry first. All you need to do to kill someone is aim. If you're going AR I'd just get a GEK and then work on your dropsuit. Get the GEK after you get a decent dropsuit and complex shield extenders. Maybe put one point in AR if you don't have the Exile so you have 60 bullets per clip instead of 48.
imo the most important skill to max out first is getting your complex shield extenders. You might need a lvl 1 or 2 dropsuit, but shield extenders give more of an advantage than weaponry. A little bit of extra damage vs two complex shield extenders for +132 hp? Easy choice. Head shots with lvl 1-2 weaponry do significantly more damage than maxing out weaponry.
I'd forget about the +5% to shields per lvl skill for a bit too. It only affects the base value of your dropsuit's shield, and does not give you a bonus for any shield extenders.
edit: I do agree that you should only do the CPU and PG upgrades when you need them. There's no point to max those out if you have nothing good to use the additional cpu/pg for. Forget about the dropsuit skill (the one that gives profile dampening and not a racial dropsuit) unless you need it to unlock a racial dropsuit.
edit edit: light weapon sharpshooter is a great skill too. It increases the range of your light weapons. If you're going heavy, use the heavy weapon sharpshooter instead. |

You might also want to unlock the basic variant of the militia gear too. The basic stuff is usually exactly the same as militia, but it uses less PG and CPU (there are a few exceptions).
Running 100% militia gear isn't a bad thing to do too. ISK is nice to have, don't spend everything on gear. |

well on the flip side of the coin going glass cannon/weaponry 5 first will get him kills while training him not to totally depend on complex shield extenders right off hand and pick his fights more carefully |

Thanks for all theses replies, will put them in good use even if i can't play yet (got game installed + passive booster running but can't really play efficiently till the remapping of keyboards is on) |

I know a bunch of people who can regularly get between 10 and 15 kills per ambush and 0 to 3 deaths with only one point in weaponry and the Exile BPO AR. They have 0 points in AR skill, 0 in light weapon range, etc, etc. I don't think the extra bit of damage will help you get more kills than just playing the game more. The more you play, the better you get.

OK, so right now in this game it seems like controller is better on the ground than kb + m for assault/scout. Maybe if you're sniping use a mouse, but you probably won't need a kb much to do that. My suggestion is to spend more time with the controller. KB+M is definitely better for vehicles, so use controller as infantry and kb+m for vehicles. |
