It doesn't happen every time, but at least once and up to 10 times per match, most usually when I'm taking damage, for no damn reason the player list or the map screen will come up.
Before I can get the damn thing closed I am usually dead.
This just happened 10 times in a row, just now. I am so ticked off, I just turned off the whole system.
I have had people watch my hands, it is not me doing it. It is almost always when I'm taking damage, usually pulling down and right on the left stick, and this is a game breaker for me.
I nearly threw my controller across the room, and I'm not an angry person.
There is no ability to react when you get hit if a damn menu comes up every time you take damage.
I AM SICK OF THIS BUG.
I started to search for it to see if it had already been posted, but I didn't know how to phrase the search.
If this is an old bug, I apologize, but it is a very very BIG problem still.
Its especially aggravating when it happens while I'm driving, because the button to close the menu is the same button as to exit the vehicle. So I go from driving at speed, to being shot at, to unintentionally exiting the vehicle and getting killed because I'm too busy trying to close the menu to evade the hailstorm of bullets coming my way.
IF I could change my own button layout, I'd take the map and player list OFF of the controller completely. I don't use them, I don't need them and perhaps if there's no button configured for said function, perhaps said function will stop making my character stand there like a target AT THE WORST POSSIBLE MOMENTS!!! |

Might be your controller. I have one that randomly sends arrow-presses when I twist the plastic a bit (e.g. when someone suddenly shoots me ;)).
Not saying it can't be a bug ofc, we have the one where neocom pops up when trying to ADS after all... |

I felt bad about complaining so vehemently, so I took more care to note what was going on. It was happening a lot more today than usual, so it wasn't hard to notice.
In addition to pushing in a direction (usually downward but off centered) I'm usually also pushing in on the left stick L3, because I'm trying to run from the person shooting me, also because of the damage, the force feedback is active.
I've tried it on two different controllers, on two different PS3's. Happens regardless.
People have watched my hands, it happens when I'm playing in a tense fashion more often, but it happens when I'm playing with a relaxed grip too.
Its also not just the map and player list... I had the vehicle drop menu come up too.
If I can figure out how to disable the force feedback, I could test to see if turning it off alleviates the problem. I'm wondering if the dpad is jiggling enough to cause a contact. I'm certainly not touching it at all.
While the controllers aren't new, they're not worn out either, and I've noticed no accidental presses in any other games.
I've also tested to see that it does the same on another friend's account, so its not that my character is bugged or anything, and it did. Just something about the combination of events is causing it to act that way. Either because of physical vibration, or because of software glitch. I will continue to investigate and report my findings. |

Disabled the force feedback completely. Still experiencing bug.
Can't seem to MAKE it happen at will... definitely seems to be tied into taking damage. Happens in vehicles or on foot. |

PS3 Controller design flaw. The ribbon cable from the buttons to the board is not a plug it. It's held against the contacts by a foam padding that compresses over time. You can google a fix or what I did, bought the Fus1on controller. My attempt at fixing it thrashed my analog sticks.
Specifically the DS3 Six-axis Dual Shock standard controller. |

Thanks for the info. I will continue to work on it. I'll be getting a new PS3 controller soon, I'll see if it continues. I also have a PS2 to USB adapter and a PS2 controller that I'm going to try.

I've procured 2 new controllers with which to test this bug. I will report on my findings in the coming days. |

Eagerly awaiting more information. I'm sure it's not directly related to taking damage, but rather what I do when I'm taking damage. I'm wondering whether it has to do with pressing a button and moving the left stick at the same time (such as, I don't know, anytime you're firing). |

Only managed to squeeze in one ambush match today, but didn't experience the bug at all.
Will continue testing... my aim is crap with the new controller... sticks are stiff. |

I too have a related bug where I press the aiming button the menu pops up. I get this at least once a match. I am so use to it now that it is saddened. I go rambo til I die and the bug goes away |

After extensive testing with my new controllers, I'm convinced that the bug is not software based.
I've not experienced it even one time with the new controller.
THAT BEING SAID, perhaps they can turn down the sensitivity on the d-pad a bit?
Like on the Dualshock 2, all of the buttons on the Dualshock 3 (except for the Analog mode, start, select, L3 and R3 buttons) are readable as analog values (pressure sensitive).
As a coder myself, it occurs to me that perhaps Dust is polling for any value other than zero, rather than giving a wider deadzone on the d-pad, which is obviously necessary.
My main point is this... other games don't have this problem on the same hardware. I don't find my weapon switching all the time in Borderlands, for instance... The d-pad acts as one would expect.
So while it may be a hardware issue, it is one that pretty much all other game studios have worked around and it stands out like a sore thumb to anyone who experiences it.
I suggest that the developers should take a little time and see if they can alleviate the problem. We all have to work within the limitations of the systems we inhabit.
To the rest of you experiencing the problem, good luck. I've heard you can hack the controller to fix the problem but I've not looked into it too hard, so if anyone wants to link on how to make such modifications, that'd be cool. |

They are using a library to solve all input and in theory the Library should work.
Whatever, there are many posts related to this and several of them have many, many answers with explanations.
In the future a Search might solve your questions before your next rant reverberates like the wail of a child off your parent's basement walls. |

I did search, monkeytard. It's not exactly an easy thing to put into a phrase. None of my search terms brought up anything.
So do us a favor and take your sarcasm schtick elsewhere, I've got plenty of my own and need none of your second grade assholeishness. Capiche? |
