Hi,
Although I was invited to join the beta some time ago, I tried Dust 514 once and didn't like it because I was overwhelmed by the menus/options in the merc quarters and overwhelmed by the bullets on the field of battle.
Recently I decided to give Dust 514 another go and I must say that I'm starting to really enjoy it although it's still a bit daunting for new players because of it's depth of customisation and unforgiving nature in the game.
Here's a quick list of bullet points that stick in my mind...
- There should be an option to remain in first person in your quarters and the pre-match-lobby thingy. Personally, I hate the third-person view as it spoils the immersion.
- The exit door of your quarters could lead to a random instant action battle just to give it some purpose.
- The menu system (I think it's called Necrom or something like that) shouldn't default back the the main tree when I return from a page. For example, I select 'Player' then scroll down and select 'Skills' but when I exit the skills page the focus has gone back to 'Player' but still highlights 'Skills' so I naturally try to scroll up to access my 'Stats' but instead find that the selector is moving up the main tree towards the Battle Finder.
- When I'm editing my dropsuit/vehicles, you should see ALL available items not just the stuff you have bought. It took a long time before I realised that Militia gear didn't require skill points to buy/use and then a bit longer still to realise that in order to see them in the list of available items while editing I had to buy at least one.
- Why doesn't the big map table in the lobby represent the map that is about to be played?
- When I order a vehicle to be dropped in, there should be a marker on the ground indicating where it will be dropped... it's embarassing having a tank dropped on your head ;)
- When I order a vehicle I should be the only one allowed to drive it until either a timer has expired or I have exited the vehicle, it's very frustrating to pay for an expensive dropship only to have another player steal it and then blow it up with me in it after a few seconds.
- Get rid of the grenade icons that indicate where agrenade has landed, it spoils the immersion as it's too 'arcade-like', just make them more visible.
- If there's a nearby medic, add a timer before the respawn option is available to give them time to reach me when I die.
- On average I receive around 5000 skillpoints per match but after approximately six rounds they seem to drop to 50 which makes progression impossible so I exit and leave the game for 24 hours. Why is this?
- I know it's beta, but why do I have to return to my quarters after every match? Shouldn't there be an option to go again or at least straight to the Battle Finder?
- Since the Forge gun doesn't have a zoom-look , can we use L1 to cancel the stored charge rather than having to switch to our sidearm?
- Vehicles should remember the our view preference so that I don't have to keep switching to first person view.... Oh, and stop overlaying the control scheme every time I get in a vehicle, I got it the first time.
- The lobby could do with a few animations to spice it up a bit, vehicle being moved by cranes in the hangar, spaceships flying outside and distant explosions on the planet below.
- Something needs to be done about the default ironsights, is the hit point behind the far sticky-up bit?, just above it? where?
- The zoom-sight for the burst assault rifle (I think it's that one) looks really low-res (the brackets).
- When a facility is being hacked, the background fill-guage that slowly fills up the on-map icon is really faint so it's hard to tell who is hacking and their progress.
- Can you make all the radial menus (edit dropsuit/vehicles, weapon/tool select and squad orders) sticky? It's tricky to hold a direction, press a button then release the stick (or is it release the button then the stick... see what I mean?).
- Can you make ladder targeting a bit less strict? I often find myself strafing left and right and missing the button pop-up indicator.
- It needs to be clearer that you have to first buy a skill and then train in that skill. If I'm looking at a weapon that requires weaponry level 3, to a newbie it looks like you just buy weaponry level 3 and you're good to go. There should be four bars above that weapon (or group of weapons) the first to buy the skill book, the next to acquire level 1, then level 2 then level 3.
- Whilst I'm on about levels, you should keep continuity with your labelling, sometimes it's level 4 and sometimes it's level IV.
Got to run now, so I'll pop back later. |

I can't offer much to the thread, but sprinting can cancel a forge gun's charge. No need to change weapons. |

I'm back...
- When I visit the marketplace I usually want to scroll down to weapons etc but the menu defaults to the front page (reasonable) with the front page content pre-selected, this means I have to wait for the (image-heavy) content to load before I can click right to unfocus it and scroll down. The best option would be to load the front page as per normal but without selecting it so I can scroll immediately. If I want to select an item from the front page I'll then just click the X button.
- The countdown timer for going off-map should be linked to your current movement speed as it's a lot harder to exit the no-go zone in a slow moving tank.
- Am I missing something here? Why can't a medic heal themselves? I assume it's the same for the repair gun too.
- This puzzled me... I had a cost of restocking a dropship at 308K and a restock cost of a tank at 220K. I knew that the two share similar (but not the same) modules as when I used one, the other would become unavailable however... in a cunning move I discovered that by restocking the cheaper tank the dropship would also become available again. I would have thought that the dropship would still be unavailable but the restock cost would lower to reflect just the missing items that weren't restocked with the tank... Hmmmm.
- Why must I always carry grenades? Sometimes it prevents me from adding an item I really want due to the CPU/PG requirements?
- Any chance of an audible lock-on warning when someone is targeting my vehicle so I have a chance to escape/evade?
- Are you protected when you're in a nanite dome? If not then it needs to not look like you would be.
- The wording 'Enter Turret' needs to be changed to 'Use Turret' as beginners will think that they're inside it and thus protected.
- The railgun visuals need to be changed as they do not match my (and I reckon most people's) expectations. I imagined that I would see some sort of instant vapor/plasma trail followed by an obvious impact blast, what I got was no trail and a vague lightning area somewhere in the distance.
- The squad leader needs some sort of point-and-mark tool to issue commands without having to find somewhere to hide whilst looking at the overhead map.
- Is there an indicator (like the scrolling kill list) to display the name of the player that has just said something over the voice comms? I hardly ever hear anyone but I assume (could be wrong) that you have to buy (with real money) the voice comms module.
- I hope that in the future we can filter games that include mouse/keyboard players as it could prove to be an unfair advantage to those that use these more responsive control schemes.
- This is a small niggle that has become an annoyance and now has made it's way on to this list. When the round starts, the female voice over says "CASHER control points to blah blah blah", it "CAPTURE" damn it! there's a P and a T in there ;)
- Does the capture rate speed up if there are defenders nearby? I ask because it seems there isn't much incentive to defend and most of the time players run of to the next objective once the hack has been successful.
- When the client updates it would be great if there was a popup notice listing the changes, I'd like to see what's changed.
- Driving the light vehicles is quite hard (especially in first person view) because they seem to be on slick tyres (yes that's how you spell it my American friends), what would make it easier would be if the camera centred (that word too) itself when you let go of the right stick so I can orientate myself to the direction of travel.
- Why bother loading in the low poly/texture model of soldiers/vehicles in the menus and the lobby if the proper version loads in less than half a second later? I'll wait.
- Any chance of having different sensitivity settings for normal/zoom view? I like to be nimble when running around but precise while aiming. At present, I have to compromise.
- The first person view on the dropship I have (I think it's called a Mylon or something like that) is way too restrictive, it's like peeking through a one foot square cutout.
- Something needs to be done about those idiots that use the light vehicles to mow down players, it's an insta-kill exploit. Maybe if you hold the left stick down (sprint) and strafe left/right it invokes a dodge manoeuvre?
- Have the bed in your quarters present the option of returning to the start screen so you can select an alternative player.
- The big roster screens in the lobby should indicate what squad you're in and sort accordingly.
- The map icons for hackable control points should indicate where the hack panel is so we're not running around in circles trying to find it.
I'll come back if I think of some more. |

You make a lot of valid points. I completely disagree with the different controllers though. It's great being able to use a mouse and keyboard along with the controller. Both have it's benefits.
One think that's really annoying is when sometimes my sniper rifle shots clearly hit someone in the head but never registers a hit. I only see a blue shield-like glow at the hit point. I can shoot him a few more times while adjusting the point and I wouldn't be able to hit him. What's worse is that once they realize where I am, they take me out without a problem. This needs a fix badly. I've lost so many kills because of this.

Hi Proton,
I disagree with you ref letting mouse/kb players play against controllers for the simple reason that when it comes to turning and aiming, the mouse is vastly superior to using a controller. I can't remember the game (might have been Quake 3 Arena) but it has been tried before and the PC gamers using m/kb absolutely obliterated their console playing peers.
Haven't experienced sniper shots not being registered, but if you're using the starter militia sniper rifle it takes at least two shots to kill the most unprotected soldiers so I'm guessing that if the enemy had superior dropsuit with HP and shield extenders it could take three shots.

Lots of stuff, so I'm only going to comment on one that I happened to notice.
I disagree that the grenade indicator spoils immersion, I think it actually helps do the opposite. We're in suits with highly advanced electronics, so it should be able to recognize things like grenades (also things like enemy distances, shield numbers, etc) and display that information on the fly into our visors/HUD. |

A new one...
- When I'm browsing dropsuits in the marketplace, it would be handy to know the PG/CPU output of each suit in the category list. As it stands the list displays PG/CPU usage so of course each suit displays 0/0 which isn't very useful. My suggestion would be to show the dropsuit output as a negative number.

This one is super-obvious but sometimes even these can be overlooked...
- This may be due to the fact that we're using Beta clients so I'm hoping that it won't be an issue in the final release. When you launch Dust 514 it displays two animated screens about using the Move controller. My issue is that despite having background loading systems in place, they're not used here so the whole loading process is haulted for around 15 seconds.

Well Dust 514 will be eventually a "MMO", ( I hope ). So i bet you anything that "doors" will lead to other areas in the station, like maybe a "bar", or a monorail. Or even other areas that we don't now anything about them yet. |

This thread is a bit dated. Much of the bullet points are still valid even today, but I see a few in there that have already been addressed. At least this thread is not 2 and a half months old like some of the other necroed threads I have seen. |

If you tap x on these screens then it speeds up to around 6 or 7 seconds. |

Did you even consider reading the Training Ground Forum?
Most, if not all, of your comments are just a waste of bits. These selfsame views are repeated hundreds of times in all the wrong Forums as well as this one (you did get that right, not to imply this is the wrong one). However, the Devs would prefer we not post lists of Requests/Feedback/Bugs and I would include outmoded NewB comments in that. Simply asking a question regarding the problem in the Training Ground would get you the answers you were unable to discover on your own.
And after all that moaning on your posts you really have nothing to add. You could have played earlier but were daunted. Got that and I am truly sympathetic.
Now, you jump back in and your opinions are the only ones that matter while ignoring all the input that has been going on for months and months you were out playing simpler games. Every single item in your list has been discussed, some might even say discussed to death. Yet you put no effort into the most basic research to a single complaint. You even had to rest and come back with more without reading replies. Hard to just chatter on about attacks on your entitled existence when you receive input from others isn't it?
Do you do this with everything in your life or just video games?
This Forum has a post from the Devs regarding Requests/Feedback items that have been looked at, recognized, understood, not understood, in the pipeline to fix and status of some of them. The Technical Support/Bug Forums has one as well. Consider reading the last several of each before posting such as this. It can be quite informative. Consider looking up informative in a dictionary at some point in your troubled yet pampered life.

Stopping any Charged weapon (Charged Sniper Rifle, Forge Guns) can be shut off with a reload, if you are down a round, or with Melee (R3). Works every single time for any of these weapon types.
The Assault Forge Gun will fire when fully charged as it doesn't not hold a charge. Just releasing R1 will stop the cycle. FYI, the Small Rail Gun Turret works the same way, hold R1 (with no charge circle) and it will fire when fully charged.
Hope that helps. |

@KalOfTheRathi (I didn't want to quote as your post is quite long and this reply is fairly close).
I'm sorry if it upsets you that some of my suggestions/feedback have been discussed before. What I was trying to convey in this post is what a new player may experience.
If some of the points have been raised before and they're still apparent to a new player then perhaps an occasional reminder might bring an early resolution, and that can only be a good thing. |

Fittings menu suggestions...
- I have rather a long list of dropsuit fittings and my most used ones are about mid way in the list. When I scroll down (holding d-pad down) the focus moves one item at and then instantly speeds up causing me to overshoot. Then the menu tries to load the 3D model of the unintended selection so I have to wait (network dependent) until it loads before I can navigate to my selection. My suggestion is twofold, firstly modify the scroll acceleration so that the speed gradually increases and secondly, delay the 3D model load for approximately two seconds.
- When editing a suit, it would be handy if the reason why the configuration is invalid is displayed as currently you have to exit back to the list of dropsuits to get this valuable information.
