aka New Boot Camp
Implement a Pseudo ranking system for all Pub matches as follows:
Any new account will only be able to enter Pub matches against other new accounts. I'm thinking anywhere from the first 5 days to 2 weeks, or until they have achieved 1 million SP. Maybe whichever comes first.
The reason for this, is new players tend to make Pub matches brutal for players who have a little or a lot more experience. Simply put, they shoot any red structure, run around like madmen, and generally have no idea what they are doing. For a more experienced player to end up teamed with such players is a brutal nightmare; particularly when the opposing team has high SP characters, and sometimes squads of them, arrayed against you.
It's bad enough that someone like me, who typically will fight any battle, just wants to go hide in a corner until it is over rather than die repeatedly from a complete lack of ability to evade a curb stomping enemy with no significant opposition.
Also, with consideration to this idea, I think this Newboot camp should result in no gain of significant WP or affect on KDR. Let them get into the game without suffering horrible KDR as a result of the learning curve, but don't award them as well as those who have passed this stage of introduction.
I'd say cut WP in half, at least. Take it or leave it though, but I'd appreciate the base idea being considered. I don't want ranking like you see in some games that function very differently, but for the purpose of New players, I think it would benefit them and the more experienced players to do this. |

While I'm not totally in agreeance with a no KDR and 1/2 WP structure, I like the idea of a noob camp.
As a Dust vet, we all had to work thru a less than desirable KDR to get to a more respectable figure as we got better and upgraded our gear. And 1/2 WP just decreases the chance of an Orbital Strike, which is something noobs probably need the experience in, as well as the reward for getting objective setting right.
But headaches from both sides make this a good idea. Vets are tired of newbies that don't watch their back or have no interesting in capping objectives. And noobs hate the fact that they are well and truly behind in gear and skills and getting slaughtered by those with a headstart.
In the end, though, it's like any other shooter. We are all noobs to begin with, but when we eventually earn our stripes and finally take down a player with notoriety, it tastes even sweeter than if we went to shooter school first. |

Damn, I shoulda seen this post before I ranted about it in another. Great ideas. I know I'd volunteer.
I have a bad alt sitting willing to do this. I just would need the advertising of other corps or just players and some support of them recommending the channel or the squading up of such and such a player etc. Or if not known on a mass scale, a few corps who are on board would perhaps want to have some new Corp mates just learn on an alt as well and take those skills over to their Corp toon so they are still in with their desried friends or Corp etc. Ill give ya an email, a channel, an alt name, W/E to be a player organized well supporteed program to make Dust a bigger success and the average Joe even a touch better for our public games. BUt I'm not gunna hang out in a unknown un supported channel/Corp hoping new players stumble across it. And noone likes to be labeled noob either so it would def need support to get off the ground. But I'd squad up with anyone and take a skull dragging (Well my alt would) for the sake of better public play.
Always nice when not waiting for the manu. (CCCP) to implement chagnes when the players are given the power to perform the task anyway. Players can take pride in giving back to the game with the tools they were granted. The Basis and Love Eve has.
Of course I run Logi and it would need more moderators of different skills to field questions as well.
I often log in with time for 2-3 matches just to grab what SP I can perhaps all Id get for the day and that's not gunna happen if I have to wait for a squad p/u. At the same time I just jump into a match and its a crap shoot as to whether its a waste of my time in those 3 matches thus I ave to build cheap suits to get by on and forgo caring about KDR. Being on top of the leaderboard with a 6/13 ratio against an unlucky draw of a squad enemy is not really a successful feeling, win or lose. (probably didnt win) |
