I believe that crossbows can exist in the eve universe-BUT not as an offensive weapon.
It could however be used for various tactical purposes like
an ammo that when stuck to an enemy provides a constant and solid tracking signal
a revive dart-yes i know its been requested
a (remote) hack dart- to prevent OP ness it wouldn't work on Null-Can and for everything else it would take considerbly longer
with higher tiers a hack dart that allows you to control a dropsuit (same repercussions as before with a decrease in range)

A crossbow by definition uses string to launch projectiles. There are so many more efficient, faster, more powerful methods of launching projectiles. Even the most primitive race uses actual guns, while others magnetically propel their rounds, a crossbow has no place in New Eden. |

Hardly a fair match.
I missed that idea in the last posting about cross bows. The one without the underlines in the title. |

Well - it could be possible to utilize a coilgun that operates and appears like a stringless crossbow - focused electromagnets on the ends of the bow arms could propel a variety of ferromagnetic, plasma, and electrified devices. As it is not a barreled "gun" design, you could launch practically anything. A few ideas:
Modified Hybrid Charges (MHC): The launch causes the suspended plasma to enter a highly-energetic state, with the end result being essentially a hybrid-weapon version of the Mass Driver - a plasma explosion on impact, with ballistic drop.
Scatterpulse Charge: Similar to the MHC, but instead fitted with a rangefinder that creates a shotgun-spread when the round is a certain distance away from impact. Can be coded by also firing a "ghost" hitscan about 3-6m ahead of the actual charge, that triggers the detonation when it "hits" the destination.
Nano-injector bolt: A revive dart
Nova Disc: A heavy spinning disc fitted with a Nova Knife-style plasma edge. No, it doesn't explode, but it can "skip" at certain angles and does strong damage upon direct impact. Potentially recoverable munition type.
Micro Drone: Launches a hover-drone that can either kamikaze or spit plasma at enemies within sight-range. "Spotting" stealth-variant possible for spec-ops missions.
Mini-turret: Launches an auto-turret that fires a spear-anchor into the surface it hits, then defends the area from cherries. Can stick to walls and ceilings due to the anchor design. |
