So this discussion was brought up and curiously enough, i was about to make a thread on it too.
I was checking the skills this weekend and it occurred to me that the Missile Skills would have to change to make any sense. You might be aware that both Operation and Proficiency offer an increase in damage but as i was thinking, it seemed to me that damage wasn't what the missiles lack most.
So, i'd say that the Missile Skills need to be changed so that they offer increases in splash damage and/or splash radius instead.
This could be done in a couple of ways.
Option 1: Missile Operation: +3 to 5% splash damage per level Missile Proficiency: +3 to 5% splash radius per level
Option 2: Missile Operation: +3 to 5% splash damage and/or radius per level Missile Proficiency: current increase in damage.
Perhaps the spread needs to be looked at again too but if we could get back some splash damage/radius with skills, it could make them more relevant again.
As they are, no one in their right mind will use them. |

Personally I think they need fixed on coding side. Skills would be nice but when you can't hit the side of a barn even when you are trying, theres not much you can do. |

As they are now there's very few situations where Missiles are a better option than Blasters.
I want to know what CCP's vision is for missiles, if they want them to be an all round decent weapon system they need a bit more splash radius and missile velocity. If they want them to be the ultimate anti-tank/instillation weapon they need a bit more direct damage to differentiate them from Blasters. There's missile variations that already do these things but I'm talking about a buff across the board.

Or all their problems could be related to this, can't really balance them until they're working properly. |

It seems to me that their animation is tied to the turret type. I haven't tried all the light variants, but some fire like there are 4 tubes the missiles fire from, and some fire straight from the center. |

Missiles were OP and got nerfed. HARD.
They fired laser-accurate, with near-infinite range (further than draw distance) and a huge splash radius with enough splash damage to two-shot even most Heavy suits without landing a solid hit.
Splash damage and radius got nerfed, and they got a MASSIVE scatter effect added in addition to the much-needed range reduction.
Since then, within a few days of the rage that ensued even from non-tankers, the scatter was reduced to a (mostly) manageable level. I'd still like to see the splash raised, at least a little, and I can see this as a good way to do so.
Typical CCP over-nerf which destroyed the gun, but followed by a partial restoration so it's not completely useless - even if it is outclassed by the other weapons in almost every area. Honestly have to say, though, Small Turrets don't have enough scatter to be too bad. They're not amazing, but they're not as outclasses as the Large versions.
Follow in the footsteps of the Swarm Launcher - it's another Missile weapon, and its Operations skill upgrades splash radius. Do the same for turrets. Then they'll actually be a valid weapon to compete against the others again. |

Yeah, that's a very valid point. |
