I mean, when i heard, mmofps on new eden, the first thing i said was **** yes ! im gonna explore amarr prime, but then i realised that this is only a battlefield on eve universe. |

Its more mmo than planetside 2. I mean you can look though the first 5 pages and there is quite a few posts asking on the lore, culture, and technologies of dust 514 than you'd ever find on most of planetside 2 forums put together. |

PS2 while being an epic theater of war is just a bit.....boring. I like it but I really dont see why it gets compared to Dust514, there are almost no similarity's apart from shooting and flying |

Oh man, i can just spill tons of lore suitable in the eve universe, and that wouldnt make it any more 'MMO' than it is atm.
Heimdallr69 wrote:Wait till nxt build i have a good feeling
Is that so? good for you, my good feelings come in form of devblogs, and some mention of real MMO content (exploration is a huge part of mmo's) on 2012 Fanfest, but all we saw was some pew pew.

And i dont wanna tlk about planet side 2, all im gonna say about that game is that it has the same things as wow has, too much ******* pastel colours.

What CCP is attempting won't happen over night. You can't just click your fingers and have console gamers able to travel around and explore a 7000 star system universe all willy nilly. There is a decade old spaceship MMO that they need to be EXTREMELY mindful of. Just wait 6 months, a year, 5 years and 10...DUST 514 and the EVE Universe is going to be the biggest mindphuck of badassery ever.
People just need to practice some patience and bring their expectations back down to the place we called planet earth. :D
Also, CCP also said that their systems are scalable. Brandon Laurino said AGES ago that they were already experimenting with 128 player games. :D |

explore a 7000 star system universe all willy nilly.
Of course ! If i hadnt been patient i wouldnt be playing dust, and spended more that 50Gé¼ on aur, but i mean, on the last fanfest i heard a lot the 'MMO' word but i didn't hear the phrase "plaets are going to be explorable.
I'm not saying that i want now to explore Amarr prime to enjoy the beauty of amarr architecture, the Empress palace, etc. and Caldari prime and the remnants of the Caldari - Gallente war, but maybe some hint of it, and if its not like that, just dont say MMO, because that has a word: "Misleading Advertising".
THE GREY CARDINAL wrote:Also, CCP also said that their systems are scalable. Brandon Laurino said AGES ago that they were already experimenting with 128 player games. :D
Yeah that great but, though I said only 32, my point wasnt focused on battles as you can see, but exploration.
I wanna be able to make my toon like as you can in EvE, touch its cheek, its nose, its ****, yada yada, I wass see its face, i wanna dress it and i wanna go down to a planet, find a bar and take a cold quafe, pretty much what i want on eve, walk in stations ****, but that another matter xD
Maybe i do have to wait xDD
But still, in eve i can go around and just do nothing, but in dust i cannot do nothing, if i wanna go down i olny can do it to shoot stuff.

First of all, thanks for your input, that solves one of my biggest concerns, but, the main problem is that CCP cannot expect that everyone follows the '862897623 websites, i follow the official forums and all stuff that comes up in the official websites... one doesnt has 897239568237 hours a day to surf all the net for that kind of information.
For all the other pricks, im just going to say: being a douche or a troll, or a wannabe, on the internet, wont solve your self esteem issues. |

There's no need to explore the whole planet, jesus, that would take ages, and if we do the math, more than 5000 systems, and say a couple temperate planets each..... :S
What i mean is that from orbit in eve you can see huge districs, but maps are tinny !
Maybe we could explore a whole city... go to a strip bar and get a hooker, or to the casino and gamble some isk while smoking a cigarette and drinking some sinthetic coffe. |

Nope, still applies here. But if you want some elaboration:
First off, CCP needs to finish and polish the core concept - get rid of the most part of the bugs, add new weapons, suits, etc. Next build they are implementing FW, which will already affect EVE to a large extent.
Next order of business - null-sec planetary conquest. When this happens, the two games' infrastructures will be intertwined like never before. At this stage, even a single little flaw could cause the economy to crumble and thus ruin both games. That is why it's highly important to incorporate this feature slowly, one small step at a time. So do not repine at CCP. But I can bet that, when it is finally in game, you won't be disappointed.

No where have I read or seen where Dust is going to evolve into what is truly considered a REAL MMO. You know, with something as simple as a persistant world? Instanced matches of 16 vs 16 or 100 vs 100 does NOT a MMO make. This tenuous connection with EVE online is fairly laughable at this point, and for the foreseeable future as well.
As a company, CCP is being more than a bit fraudulent by advertising their product as an MMO because "one day" it might be. Speaking in the present about what a game may be in three, four or ten years is akin to selling snake oil. |

Exploration of planets does not make it an MMO. If any other game that had that in it was single player, it would still be single player.
What makes it an MMO is the merge with Tranquility and access to communication and transactions between the players in EVE and Dust. That, and the fact that, even on the Battle Servers, EVE players can respond to calls for Tactical strikes and have a fairly serious effect on the ground battle happening in Dust.
Outside of the Battle Servers, Dust players are also all on TQ. If you happen to be in the right system, you can chat with them if you like.
Really, you make EVE players look bad.

did you listen to cast 514?
Every single map in this game will one day be it's own map. The 4th district on planet 1 in FD-716 will always be the same, and it's map terrian is taken right from the eve online planet. Each planet in eve online was created with random seeds so no two planets in eve are alike 100%. So even if your map has the same communcations building in the middle as every other map, the terrian surrounding it is YOURS. It's your planet, and if it gets taken you'll be fighting to get it back on a battlefield full of memories.

Whoa there killer,
Look, it's true, the game is in very deep beta and as such, your not playing the game...you're sampling a game's engineering. Upon release, Dust is not going to simply be a room where you fight 2 matches, Ambush or Skirmish from and buy pre-built gear. Much of the nuance and innovative features are already very much live and being tested internally or trying to be eased into the game without breaking Eve (something very delicate to perform).
All this granted though, there I'm not saying you're being irrational, but you got to understand what we're signing up for: a project.
Eve is still unfinished, it's the community that has always made it a full experience. I think Dust has a great potential to do even better as a standalone game, but the meta game is where it's at and that is already very healthy.
As for the next patch, I do believe we have some massive changes headed our way:
Complete revamp of Dropsuits and larger armory of at least 2 new class suits and full faction variations 3-4 new weapons Large environmental changes/ graphical updates (lots of area/seeding discussion lately and mention of local vegetation) Possible new conquest mode features and Faction warfare enhancements Internal Dust Market? (need confirmation) Greater Location Awareness 48-player matches (minimum of 48 for Conquest was mentioned...hinting at much larger numbers being tested) ...and much more :)
We're looking at some pretty massive changes, only to be followed by Fanfest build (which will likely be equally impressive and be greatly focused on a stronger relationship between Eve and Dust 514 as this is the primary concern to Eve Players. Trust me folks, give it a few more months to grow. It's gets better every build and best of all, you don't really need to invest a dime. ;) |

^ Agreed. MMO-Massively Multiplayer Online. I'm here to sync with EvE capsulers to shoot things they want me to shoot. Being a pilot myself, I'm jazzed by the idea of being able to interact with ground troops. Realistically, I'm well aware of how long this will take. Someone mentioned a beta somewhere around here. I think they're on to something.
To the point, Online: check; Multiplayer: check---being on TQ by definition makes it so, but the devil is in the details so I can concede that until we have clearly established methods of communication, player-based market interactions, and FW contracting and hijinx with capsulers, then we aren't QUITE there (see beta reference earlier in this thread) Massive: well in progress/partial check for the naysayers.
While I think it would be cool to explore, seeing the "MMO" tag does not direct me to that thought, and I'm not sure why it would for anyone really. I do, expect it to come in time. Why wouln't it, at least in a sort of PVE format? But again, that's down the road.

The sandbox, persistent maps, and exploration are all stuff that will happen with time. They are going to get the fps part working well before adding it.
So it is a fps that will evolve into an mmo with fps control interface.
In otherwords it's not an mmofps yet, but one day it will be a mmofps. |
