The big draw to the Level 3 Dropships is on board spawning, but I recently noticed their is a module for that. And it got me thinking if the Level 3's are even worth it now.
Here's my analysis:
On-Board Spawning Module takes up 20 CPU and 160 PG.
If you are using Caldari, the Myron (Lv1) has 30 more base CPU and 130 more base PG than the Eryx (Lv3). It also has all the same equipment slots. So by placing the On-Board Spawning Module on it you lose one High Powered Module slot (still have 3 more) and lose 30 base PG space, but you also gain 10 base CPU space. Further more the Eryx has 100 more shield HP than the Myron.
If you are using Gallente, the Grimsnes (Lv1) has 25 more base CPU and 165 more base PG than the Prometheus (Lv3), and again all the same slots. So you would actually gain 5 base CPU and 5 base PG. This one is not quite as good a trade as Caldari though since you'd only have one remaining High Powered Module slot and you'd lose 200 base armor HP.
But basically you get my point. Currently I'm thinking their needs to be more of an appeal for the Lv3 dropships because that is a major SP sink to invest in and currently I can get a better product in my opinion with the Lv1 plus the On-Board Spawning Module (which takes considerably less of an SP investment).

wouldn't surprise me if for the heavy aerial vehicles you need race specific drop ship lvl 4/5 so it probably wont be waisted sp even if you do train it to lvl 3
But the question is do you want to have the extra hi slot?
For me the answer is yes, you might decide that ether having a CRU in your drop ship is a waist or you are happy to lose a hi-slot.
I doubt we will see high level gear or vehicles being uber things of death, but more about personal preference. So is it worth it?
Don't know, what do you think :P |

The best thing you can do is go for Level 5 in Circuitry and Combat Engineering, then move onto the Logistic Dropships. Also, make sure you can actually fly a DS before moving onto the next grade in DS.
Before the wipe, I was flying a 650K+ Prometheus with great blasters. I used it to it's full potential and the slot saved by not having to put a CRU on board is definitely a bonus. The on board CRU can be a really useful thing to your team, but if you're going to be running the tight knit squad, stick with the Standards.
