..or must you invest all the way to Rapid-reload proficiency to see any significant changes? |

I don't upgrade them personally. The adjustment offset it too small and the reload time is reasonable quick initially.
The decreases aren't significant for most weapons for that matter. To reduce a reload time by a second it has to be 6.5 seconds to start with. Below 3.5 seconds the reward is under 1/2 a second. With server/client ping of 160ms that is just past a client/server ping and return. Average reaction time was .44 seconds (many years ago) and age will determine where on that curve one fits. Youth will be under it while older gamers will be over. So a reward that is around gamers reaction times isn't significant. I have too many other places to put SP for now.
A reload decrease of 5% to 10% per level would be worthwhile but is out of line with the type of rewards CCP wants to give it would appear. I would suspect that a minimum reload gain would have to be at least 1 second and hopefully, below level 5.
While I give others a hard time for wanting DUST to be like some other game I would like to showcase the Fast Hand skill in Borderlands. I am not suggesting we use that just that is it a really significant boost to reload speed. The first time one gets to a good level, well, I reloaded my gun and fired a round repeatedly just to watch the animation. It was great and reloading was virtually eliminated as a concern. A different solution for a different game. |

160ms is really bad ping for an FPS. I'm not aware of a ping meter, but I bet I get well below 100ms.
In any case, ping or reaction time don't play into this equation: you get the same 1/2 benefit from the skill whether your ping/reaction time is 50ms or 50 seconds.
But agreed, the benefit from the skill is pretty marginal, and I'll only skill it up when I have my character otherwise more or less complete. It might play a bigger role for shotgunners and MD users (haven't checked if there's a skill to improve their reload times). |

There is, and it's still marginal, as in the MD you replace the entire clip of grenades without having to reload each individual grenade, I can't remember about the shotgun tho, but I remember it being not a bad reload baseline. |

ISK shotties are really fast to reload, but since the Militia shotgun is really slow, skilling up might help quite a bit. |

If you read the information from CCP 160ms is design goal and 250ms is when they think it is broken.
I am so happy for your fast ping times. I am sure you excel in pinging.
The point about ping times is this, as apparently I didn't explain it well enough for you: If the change is under the ping with return time it might as well not happen as your action can easily be negated by actions coming from the server. It is just software engineering. The change has to be enough to beat the action on the server (via the other client) by a reasonable percentage. Anything less than that is insignificant and, thus, is not worth doing.

If that's the design goal for CCP, they are even more clueless of FPS requirements than they've shown to be in the past. |

I see.. Thanks for the response. I use the Scrambler, the Tactical Assault Rifle and the boomstick, and I thought a faster reload time is what I needed the most, but I guess I'll just forget about it and focus on other skills.
