Yes, it does. @ the other guy with the long post, I'm pretty sure he's talking about the mini-map radar.
You can be behind a wall standing still, but if there's another guy on the other side of the wall and he starts sprinting, he will appear with a red blip on your radar. It used to be broken, but it apparently works now. I have seen this myself.
If you want to creep, you have to do it slowly. Good luck not getting spotted.

So If you know that you are more than 35m from most people (which is about the outer limit of a long range scanning scout with good skills) you should be able to safely run, seen only by those scoping you.
I believe that's just for radar range, but I'm not entirely sure how it works. For some reason red dots appear at almost every distance whenever you aim down the sights. I think the dropsuit radius is just for the red blips that appear on the minimap around you. It's not team mate shared vision, but I can put up my iron sights and get red dots across the map.
Once before the reset I believe I saw some guy who must have had all the profile dampening gear he could possibly use. I was a little surprised that a red dot wasn't appearing, so like any sensible player I shot at the offending object with my rifle. To my surprise I got red hit markers, and then I quickly got a kill. After that I rely more on what I can see, especially if it's moving, instead of the red dot. I might throw up sights to check if blue.
I have absolutely no idea why people like the profile dampening stuff. I guess it makes you harder to get a red dot for a whole squad to see, but if you're going against a halfway decent squad someone will shoot you, and if you get away he'll call out your location on coms. My theory is that people believe that if they do not have a red dot on their head, they are invisible. |

But that's my point. If you have to approach an enemy from behind for it to work, there's no difference between doing that with dampeners and without.
Arramakaian Eka wrote:You'd be surprised how much people even in heavies trust their minimap, and don't look around.
Like I said, there's a chance it might work in pub matches against oblivious opponents, but it has little to no value in corp battles. In corp battles everyone is looking around.
idk, the choice is yours. Personally, I don't see a point in wasting stuff on things that do not help me win battles that matter to me, aka corp battles. |
