With all the "OP" and "nerf" threads that have been popping up, lately I've been trying to figure out whether my kill success is due mainly to the fact that I usually play Heavy/HMG, if it's good SP placement and suit fitting, or if there really is some skill involved.
Tonight I concocted the most masochistic test I could put myself through:
Step 1: Create a brand new character. In this case, Gallente Enforcer. Step 2: Drop the remaining SP into armor and weaponry, but don't spend a single SP over the initial 500,000. Step 3: Run 100% militia fits. I used the bog-standard free Enforcer fit. Militia AR 4tw?? Step 4: Go try to kill some folks and see how you do.
First Skirmish I did I went 19-10 and was #1 on the match ranking. Second Skirmish I was 18-14, #2 on the ranking. My KDR isn't fantastic (1.54 so far), but I didn't expect to be in the positive at all.
Incredibly, in the second match I was able to fight two HMG Heavies at the same time and win with my unaltered s***fit. They both lived through my initial surprise grenade, so it wasn't a complete gank, either.
I'm going to continue the experiment, but honestly, if this is possible... where the heck are the balance issues? It seems like EVERY logical suit/weapon combo is powerful. And yet their weaknesses are easy to exploit even for a zero-day character if you play right.
Anyone else willing to give this a shot and post their mileage? |

My first toon had a KDR of something like 0.25 for the first couple weeks while I got my bearings. This is my first FPS experience; so, I bought Zitro's book and watched ReGnUM's videos. Despite having over a million skill points on the original character I decided to start over. In the last week I have been running 1.15 KDR with a new character rolling in militia gear fit for buffer. Tactics FTW.
Some day I will proclaim "I got good son!" |

Regarding Mr Zitro's book:
Ok, technically there is no book. Zitro trolls people to "buy my book" to improve their game.

I did this today as you can see, fresh acct except I did one up... I didn't invest any sp whatsoever and ran front line assault (even in a match full of fatties) didn't place below 5th on the team once and pulled in some decent kdrs (13/3 etc) I haven't been playing for very long (2 months or so) so unless front line assault is OP people gotta stop whining and get good.
Also, nanohives are severely UP no matter how many times they're thrown.... No kills buff pls
Edit: I chose caldari artificer for race/class |

I created a new character a few days ago and have easily kept a 4.0 k/d playing solo in militia gear without spending extra sp. I know 4.0 isn't the best but it's certainly not bad either. |

This is awesome and should be a Sticky. People just assume they were born auto-god-mode and therefore any deficiency encountered in game is automatically assigned as being ANYTHING else's fault. It should go without saying that there is a ton to work on (this should be obvious), but c'mon people. |

Been doing this for a week now. made a noobtoon, have not spent a single SP into infantry skill.
Been going 100% HAV driver.
Still well in positive KDR even when I do something stupid, lose a Madrugar and have to spend two games on foot trying to steal another bluedots tank
But yeah, I do fine without anything but the starter fits. most of the bluedots are effing lemmings.
Edit: and lest I forget, 90% of all red dots are only dangerous in groups of three or more. CoD did not prepare them well for a more realistically paced game with a major combined arms and tactical coordination emphasis. |

Started fresh this week myself, coming back from closed beta (two builds back) I think I'm sitting at around 1.3, not that it matters but standard fits are not that bad. Besides, ain't nuthin' more fun than nailing a guy fully kitted out in expensive gear when you only have you militia suit on. The game is much easier once you realise its not your standard FPS affair. What you choose to Plough your SP into can make all the difference. |
