Here's how I think Dust 514 could be expanded given enough time and appropriate market conditions (the latter of which are non-existent):
The game could be expanded to become fully open world, with the ability to use freighters like buses between worlds (and also being able to have someone with a spaceship transport you), a more flexible char creation system and direct linkage to EVE online. So basically, you'll be able to play an individual of any profession(s) in the same universe as all the EVE online players.
Starter professions (which only determine your starting equipment and skills) would be divided into Millitary (Combat skills and Weapon loadouts), Mercantile (working for corporations to sell stuff or deliver goods), Exploration (charting uncharted space regions, salvaging stuff etc.) and Science (researching in the fields of Technology, weaponry, ship components, salvage analysis etc.). There would be no rigid class system, so you could become skilled at anything given enough time. Vehicles would probably include terrestrial land/air/water craft, plus some small shuttle craft (there would also be an option to hitch rides on others' ships). It could be F2P, provided that the functions of Aurum expanded to being able to buy some exclusive equipment (In-game acquirable ISK would probably remain the main currency). There would be equipment for all professions, and skills would have different functions in different situations. You would be able to interact with corporations in EVE online in real time, accepting missions, selling things you found or products of your research.
Individual characters would have to work together to make any measurable impact on the scale of EVE Online, so it would still retain its status as a window into a small portion of the EVE universe, therefore keeping EVE Online relevant.
As to gameplay, DUST gameplay for combat, and third person gameplay for other stuff such as moving around on ships, planetary exploration, etc. would seem feasible.
I know all of this will probably never happen, but what do you think? |
