I accidentally posted this in the general discussion, but it belongs here.
There is a mayor flaw in the communications with the team. The first is, that most people will have their voice activated on the corp channel. This leads to people only communication with their own squad at best.
I could suggest a couple of things to fix this. In the pre-battle automatically switch chat to team chat. Create a fast button to switch between team and squad chat for the squad leaders. |

Not just that but where is the team communication? Its like each squad is its own island.
How can a team expect to function properly when its splintered into so many separate non-communicating parts? Dust will never achieve its potential if the comms aren't improved a great deal. Where is the platoon leader in matches? Why isn't there proximity chat? Games significantly less complex than Dust have comms that are much better.
No one can force players to do anything, but if you give us a command structure and platoon leaders the ability to talk to their squad leaders on a command channel AND address the entire team on a platoon broadcast, veteran players can give newer players the best tutorial they'll ever get. AN IN-GAME ONE. They can educate them in good tactics, teach them to play as a team and give them pointers on the game as well. Isn't Dust supposed to have MCC commanders at some point? A platoon leader fits into that perfectly. You never know how many players would stop sniping from the red-line or shooting teammates if they heard a plan of action. The War Room pre-match would give a PL the perfect opportunity to address the team and outline his plan (especially if the map actually worked)
Proximity Chat also enhances communication. At a basic level it makes us able to talk to teammates who are close to us. It also allows us to hear the enemy, but its best function is that it gives us the ability to COMMUNICATE. With prox, even players w/o mics can hear teammates through their TVs requesting things like nanohives or nanite injectors and be better teammates.
Use a system that selects players with mics and alot of war points for leadership so that veteran players can teach new ones. I understand this game is still in beta with not all of its features implemented, but hopefully its voice-chat system and team communication will see a major upgrade. |

I wholeheartedly agree with OP and Kushmir. I also would like to propose a method for players lacking a mic. We could use the current push-to-talk button and face buttons to select commands placed into four groups:
Offense - Attack Vehicle/Enemy and Capture Objective (can tag with current system)
Defend - Provide Cover-Fire, Defend Objective (can tag with current system)
Support - Need Ammo/Repairs/Reinforcements
Battle Phases - Incoming Tank/Dropship/etc., Retreat, Advance and Flank
I don't have a mic so if this is implemented, I will be a happy camper. Any feedback on this would be appreciated. |
