Have a question concerning Tanks. I noticed 99.9999% of the time tanks are using 80J blaster fits for there main gun. Why not use missiles or railgun for anti-vehicle warefare. Is it because every Tom **** and Harry is throwing av grenades/swarms?
My alt uses tech III blaster 80J and tech IV small blasters but ive been thinking of using a Railgun to go after tanks, jeeps. Missiles are an option but are complete shiiite against infantry. I usually hit around 25/1 sometimes /2 if im being stupid or drunk. Ive been pondering setting up AT style tank with 20J blasters...Though its kind of specialized against vehicles and there aren't that many vehicles in a game usually.
Some input would appreciated. |

Blaster turrets are AI. Railguns are AV. Missiles got nerfed to hell and are terrible. Most people gear their tanks for AI.
I gear my tank for AV, but it is easy to throw a blaster turret on and go AI if I think it's better or needed.
edit: don't rely on small turrets, they are terribad. |

I use both railgun and blaster for my main gun. The reason why rail gun is av is because of the range advantage and it's harder to hit infantry rather then blaster. Put identical tanks touching each other with one blaster and one rail then the blaster wins. It's extremely difficult to destroy installations with blaster because of the damage installations do it's hard to get in range. Missiles suck don't use them. The hybrid weapons are far better in every which way. |

imo railgun tanks are vulnerable to AV infantry, and poor at close range. Blaster tanks can handle infantry better and also handle other vehicles and turrets.
id like small turrets to be better to make a railgun tank (and also dropships) more of an option.
i also think the 80GJ blaster is a bit too strong.
missile turrets are a joke. theyre rocket turrets, and crap ones at that.
i also think tanks should have a separate gunner/driver. |

Play eve and it all makes sense.
Think of rails as sniper rifles, and blasters as SMG's |

@.@
I think of railgun shield tanks as tank destroyers, and blaster tanks as a new version of anti-infantry tanks. |

I prefer using a railgun on my tank to first clear the battlefield of installations (to protect my LAV if I call it in later), then start sniping infantry from a nice vantage point.
Surprisingly, I never lost that tank yet, and always get a huge pile of WP from using it. It'm even throwing in the SP now to fit a heat sink and make it even better. |

If you run with consistent Gunners the effort to put decent Blaster turrets on will be rewarded. Assuming you all use mics.
Tank vs Tank is interesting as the Rail Gun has the advantage at distance. The Blaster has the advantage at close range and is absolutely killer when sneaking up from the rear. The RG will barely be able to react before it is gone. At a distance the Blaster cannot close to its most effective range before two shots have landed, at which time there is no more Blaster tank.
When you are anti-infantry the Blaster is great. With two decent Small Blaster Turrets your gunners can add significantly to your effect on the battle. But, you must be careful with some of the maps. Getting clear of a firefight can put you directly in the sights of a Rail Gun Turret. Poof, gone.
The Sniper Tank mentioned works well but put a Blaster on the top turret and a Rail Gun on the front. The front turret can snipe at medium range and the top can keep infantry at bay if they get to creeping around.
Missiles are junk. Plain and simple. They work mostly as a Turret Installation but no longer have splash damage. Sending four to six missiles into a group of infantry may not net a single kill. They can be good for suppression fire. The New Berries don't realize that and will run for cover.
Obviously this is coming from the viewpoint of a Gunner that runs with a consistent crew. If we could lock the Random Blues out of my seat I would jump out more to capture objectives. Until the Driver can eject an unwanted crew member I only jump out when there are no blues around. |
