I hate complaining but come on now, every time you should be takeing a step forward instead two steps back. Three maps foreal, now we have four maps which aren't that different. CCP the maker of eve, a mmo I havent played but admired for years, please give us a worthy update. I do read the forums and hated when people talked bad but now I don't know what else to do. I love dust but something's got to give. Not mad just disappointed :-( |

You do know it's still in BETA? They are still ironing out game-play, maps are a secondary problem and I'm sure they got more maps planed since EVE Online got 9 types of planets
1 Gas - Probably no maps 2 Ice - Probably maps 3 Storm - Maybe? 4 Barren - Current maps (guessing?) 5 Temperate - Should have maps 6 Lava - Maybe? 7 Oceanic - Would need to be on installations? 8 Plasma - Maybe not :P 9 Shattered - Would be cool
So they have a few things to work with but as stated it's BETA :) |

Due to the PS3's memory issues, they are not currently working on anything but maps for Temperate-type planets. Watch the "Seeding the Universe" EVE 2012 Fanfest video on YouTube for more info. And vegetation is coming next build.
The other planet types would be fairly easy to make maps for. All the non-solid planets would simply require floating platforms, like the city in Star Wars, called Cloud City. Star Wars also had that city on the ocean planet, and the Battlefront games features maps which took place there, too. Fighting on EVE's various planets wouldn't be a major issue creatively. It's simply an issue in terms of technical limitations of the PS3, as well as of course the time required to create whole new terrain types.
Anyway, the OP's issue is in specific map configurations apparently rather than terrain types. We do need more map variety. I don't know what the deal is with this stuff, as I understand the maps are meant to be procedurally generation. I suspect we'll get more next build which might come mid/late February. |

Well, the PS4 should be out before the second expansion of Dust, so maybe we will get some fights on planets other than Barren and Temperate in DustGÇÖs second expansion (that would be a year after Dust release).
Lava would be cool. Installations would be built on more solid sections of crust, but there could still be glowing red hot spots where you take damage if you run across them. Maybe rivers of lava just off the edge of the map, or to form choke points on the map where you have to take a bridge.
Ocean installations could be floating, or on the sea flour.
Storm planets would have very low visibility. Snipers would have to rely on active radar to find and aim at their targets, which would make them appear on everyoneGÇÖs radar. It would mean they would have to change positions regularly. I would say on Storm planets CQC would be king.
As for go-live I think CCP is being carful not to bight off more than it can chew. With expansions every six months Dust does not have to be everything they want it to be at launch. I think they are just trying to put together a solid core game that works the way they want, and then they will continuously add flavour with every expansion. |

The PS4 coming out wouldn't change the fact that the game will need to run on the PS3 still, and for years after the fact. Not everyone will get a PS4 right away, and CCP probably wouldn't want to lose a bunch of players by adding stuff that won't work on the PS3. |
