What I think is truly sad, is the fact that most of the people who play (Or will play) this game will nevern++ understand its incoming (And currently existent) depth. They'll always believe it to be another Halo or a futuristic COD. When it becomes a true part of EVE the markets will be one, stocks will be rampant, politics and shadows will move ferociously. The drama of EVE will be introduced into DUST. I for one can't wait for us to join New Eden truly I just find it unfortunate that most other "Dusties" won't understand. I've been looking into New Eden for sometime now, truly mesmerized by its player created lore, politics and grudges. Reading the EVE forums is like reading a really good never ending book (I suggest checking out the Intergalactic Summit on the EVE forums for a good idea of the state of New Eden, as well as some good laughs) but some of the newer Dusties appearing don't care about any of that, they just want another FPS to "Pwn" or "Troll" in, it's truly depressing that so much intricate work and depth, put into a world, with such care is going to be overlooked by anybody. In my experience a lot of these players go away, back to COD or BF3, bored with games like DUST due to their lack of understanding or even caring to learn (I.E. First timers who skip over the tutorials and yet have NO idea how the game works) and infuriated at their lack of success in New Eden because of this consequent lack of understanding. Maybe it's just me, maybe I'm just venting my frustrations onto the forum because of my previous experiences (DCUO, Planetside, Perfect World all had players like this) but It...Vexes me when I see someone in local chat say that "This is just Call Of Duty Derp derp so lame!" I just want to facepalm everytime I see that, as it proves their true ignorance in this matter and the fact that they probably have no business playing Dust 514. But in the communities defense I haven't been seeing it as often as I'd thought, is it possible that all of those people have left already? Hm...Regardless my ending point in this post is that when the time comes and we Dusties become truly integrated into the vast galaxy that is New Eden, please try and keep up on the depth of the game, I want us to be just as active and adept as the people who play EVE, willing and able to hold our own on both the battlefield and in negotiations, and be considered at least close to equals by those riding among the stars.

You can thank us blueberry classics for this, you want cod and come to the forums, prepare to be eaten, trolled, repeatedly killed, one more cycle then tossed from the forums. |

Hey Soght
I get what your saying and i do feel your pain, But if this is truly how you feel, maybe coming to moan on the forums isn't the best solution. instead of face palming every time you see something like that said in local, tell them about the depth, remind them this is still in beta and explain to them some of the really cool things that are yet to come. Its up to those of us who know and understand the brilliance of Dust to educate those who don't understand it.
And if we take the lead in trying to educate and inform newer players we set an example of what the community should be. that right now, in my mind is the biggest gift we can give the community.
So don't get disheartened, keep strong and keep setting an example of the very best this community can be. |

You need to be able to see the game that this will become. This game is being developed right in front of our eyes. The closed beta was around a year or so and many closed testers thought CCP should be farther along. Why? Most games take 2+ years before they are at release quality. If the release version for Dust comes out this summer, CCP will be right on schedule. It's kind of cool that CCP let players come along for the ride. |

You guys are probably right, I will try and educate who I can. Any of those people who will listen anyway. I also do thank the people who scare off the irritating nuisances I've described, and...
I'll try and space out my sentences. I didn't know it was actually going to appear that way when I posted it xD. Shoulda previewed. |

Hey I wouldn't worry too much or feel bad that plebs can't appreciate the potential in this game. I have been eagerly anticipating Dust 514 ever since its very first announcement because although I may not be in a position to play EVE I am enthralled by the universe and legend of that game so I literally jumped in joy at the chance to become part of it. |

Exactly! But that was my problem. A lot of people only see COD, because that's all they ever see in a shooter. They don't understand the development that goes into an mmo-anything, especially not one made by CCP. They don't understand that there is a reason EVE has existed for 10+ years and they don't understand that this will be (in my opinion it already is) better than COD or Halo. But thanks to the power of forums I was given the idea to teach people about Dust, what I know of it and its galaxy, to try and educate those I can, and wish good luck to those I can't.

There will be players that don't understand the depth of the EvE universe, there will be players that do. There will be players willing to learn, and players that aren't.
Those that don't cut the mustard will eventually leave and only those dedicated, and wise enough to grasp the totality of what this game actually is will remain, and that is when the serious fun begins...
I wouldn't worry one bit, there is a natural order of things and everything will happen exactly as it is meant to. |

Can you blame them? When I first heard of dust through the playstation store, I had no idea what the game was about or the universe it took place in. I only downloaded simply because the trailer looked pretty enticing and it was free to play, so why not right? Console players literally don't know anything about PC games, neither do I, which is why the Universe of EVE is completely unheard of to most new players. The game as of now, also does nothing in order to introduce newcomers to the universe that has apparently been around for a decade. They're told to gear up and go fight battles with friends while briefly and poorly describing how these "battles" that you're fighting actually have more significant meaning than being at the top of your leaderboard.
Educate them, go easy on them. I had no idea about any of this until a couple of days ago when a couple of FRIENDLY guys from both Dust and EVE gave me a lengthy and interesting introduction to what I was missing. |

Joking aside, I feel ya man. But getting sucked into the world of New Eden isn't as easy for some. But like 3 bird and IRuby Heart said, you've gotta teach them about New Eden, try to be friendly and show what the world they've decided to participate in has to offer. And maybe they'll grasp what you're trying to teach, and join in on the fun that is New Eden.
Then again, some will just **** on your crackers and laugh at you, claiming that that's just silly (are you kidding? Politics, a dedicated community, and marketing in a game?), then they'll flail helplessly at trying to get somewhere in this game and realize that it's a lot harder than it seems, and possibly leave.
After a while, things well even out, and you'll start seeing a lot more dedicated DUST players, and less 'console' (I use the term loosely) players. |

On a long enough timeline, we might see Dust mercs on the frontlines of a district fighting for their home. Capsuleers handing out medals and awards to their mercs just like their hero pilots. Dust corp names in the headlines after the next big player driven event in New Eden. Maybe some of you in this thread who have a natural understanding of the "big picture" will find yourself in High Command Jabber channels planning operations to destroy other coalitions.
With time, more and more Dust players may take interest in the current events and politics of New Eden because it will matter more to them, likewise those same bitter-vet starship players who scoffed at the idea of sharing a universe with console players may one day raise hell to keep them here.
When? My guess is Soon(tm) |
