I just had an great idea for a new kind of mission that would be great and unique in both Dust 514 and FPS games in general, and i wanted your guys input on this.
Get the &%$#?!! of the planet!!
Basically you and another team get dropped on a hostile planet. But once you are down there you, your team and the opponent team notice that something is wrong. It could be anything, from toxic gas levels too high for your environmental suit to process thus slowly poisoning you, to a massive volcano about to erupt obliterating everyone in its path, or something else entirely.
Or it could be something like a massive bomb you have to install that wipes out everything on the continent you are on.
Once the bomb goes off, you have been poisoned to death, are nothing but a pile of ash from the from the volcano eruption or whatever else suddenly killed you, your team and all of the equipment that is needed for new clones and you are still on the planet the mission is over and you have failed. In other words, if both teams cannot get off the planet in time they both fail.
In order to get off the planet both teams have to get to a extraction point. There is only one extraction point, so both teams are fighting each other while at the same time trying to get to the extraction point which depending on the timer could be very far away.
To make sure that there is only one winning team the team that manages to get off the planet the winning team can disable or destroy the extraction point, leaving the other team behind on the doomed planet.
To make sure that the game is a fair fight there could be certain checkpoints along the way to the extraction point where for example 60% of all players on a team has to check in (100% is not good in case some players suddenly are afk and are still ingame). If a player on a team dies, the new checkpoint will be than the place where they re-spawn.
To make sure that there is not one person who gets in a vehicle and speeds off to the extraction point and wins the game for his entire team you could make it so that the extraction point is unknown to everyone and in order to know its location a group has to work as a team at the checkpoints to hack into the system and locate the next checkpoint, until the latest checkpoint gives the location of the extraction point.
I think this new kind of mission i just came up with would really work nicely on Dust 514. I don't know if anyone remembers still remembers this game: Unreal Tournament 2004. They had basically the same kind of missions, it was called ONSLAUGHT. http://forums.epicgames.com/threads/308901-Descriptions-of-UT2004-s-Assault-and-Onslaught-Game-Types I played it for many years on custom made maps made by people within the unreal 2004 gaming community. Best time (besides playing Eve) i ever had playing video games. If Dust 514 could recreate that, that would be totally awesome. |

The basic idea is great, an extraction mode, toxic gas might not play well in to the EVE part of things but intel extraction or resource extraction? Going from location to location having to upload massive amounts of data that you need to get from somewhere else or guard a transport that is going off planet :)
The part about both teams being able to lose would also be a fun twist on normal gameplay, would also boost teamplay since you would probably need atleast two or three groups, one defending the "package", one going for the other teams "package" and maybe one for some "side mission" that could boost your side or hinder the other team? |

An extraction mode doesn't make much sense when our minds are immortal, just copy/pasted on new bodies all the time. There would not be any real reason for an extraction. |

It would also not make sense that corps would not cooperate under those circumstances and share the way out...
But I do like the general Idea of a gamemode where both teams can lose if the objective isn't achieved in time! |

Well, maybe both teams have important information on a datapad that cannot be uploaded through a neural interface. Or maybe there are environmental reasons (like a very big solar flare) that prevent both teams from getting safely off the planet without an extraction point. There are 1001 reasons why something could go wrong or why a team cannot simply die and get on with the next mission.
But overall it doesn't really matter. What matters is that could be a nice and original mission. Something that has not been done so far (as far as i know) in FPS games except for maybe in Unreal 2004.

I am sure that CCP could install some kind of algorithm to the map to make sure that the extraction point will be different every time 2 teams do it. That wouldn't be so difficult would it? I mean from what i've heard CCP is already working on making maps dynamically different each time you play them. |
