I recently made a new profile a couple of days before the open beta. My main objective is to get better at being a dropship pilot. Anyone have any weapon recommendations?
Is it weird that I rarely see other dropships in the air on this new profile? |

BLASTERS OF DOOM! Get yourself a decent gunner or 2 and its crazily effective. Blasters and an CRU on a dropship = mobile fortress. |

Blasters- best for killing infantry Railguns- best for giving suppressing fire in the desired drop zone, and deterring vehicles. Missiles somewhere in the middle. |

People seem to use the dropships less. Probably since you get no skill points for transporting squads. Most you get is acouple of assists. |

Thanks for all your feedback. Are any of you experienced pilots? If so, do you think we should get skill points for dropping of squads near objectives in skirmish? |

Try using scatter blasters as your anti infantry weapons for your dropship. I use them on my dropship and they just tear people up whenever i have good gunners. Also it'd be nice to get some points for dropping people off at locations around the map but id even settle for getting some warpoints for teammates spawning on my CRU. I'm hoping they'll implement that in the future |

There was a guy/gal I saw in one match (cannot remember the name), but they were bad a$$ with the drop ship. In the skirmish I was playing they were dropping troops down on the objectives and causing a lot of problems for us.

Dropship pilots are an essential part of a squad it is a shame that they only get assist points. |

Third person is the only useful view. First person is tunnel vision. It doesnt have to be, but CCP didn't put any effort into it. |

There are several threads discussing this point over in the Feedback section. |

Mo I fly in 3rd person (that is the one where you can see the entire ship right? lol). That way I can have a better look at what is going on on the ground. But I am kinda new so I am trying to learn how to fly...and it is very tricky for me right now.
Right now I am running a cheap milita ship but I will soon be able to buy my first ship based on skill points. How about you? |

Blasters, but they're pretty hungry on the PG. They finally fixed them and they are BEAST |

Me too I'm learning how to be a good pilot with a cheap ship. Once I get better I will probably buy a better ship. I also fly in 3rd person |

3rd person just lets you see more in my opinion. That way i can help call out targets for my gunners or spot enemy swarms coming at me |

my suggestion would be a scattered blaster on one side and on the other side a cyclic missile launcher to get rid of installations and vehicles. well thats a attack dropship loadout which cant be used with randoms. Espacially not the missile launcher cause your dropship will flinch all over the place. |

This is off topic. But not really, yesterday I was asked about the Ariel prop mod on a drop ship which I find is a necessity in keeping it alive.
The problem with this fit is the turrets, only missiles can be used. Atleast for the Myron and ereyx.
The Gallente version may allow for the blasters, but I don't think so.
Long read but worth it...

I actually enjoy the controls, here's a tip on staying alive though,
Fit the damn Ariel prop mod. Good god it does the job.
However, since DS's are supposed to have a logistical role in repping they do need a lil' buff.
If a tank needs repped on field, how the hell will a DS stay there?
Please explain Ariel prop mod. I haven't cared enough about dropships to really look into it. I usually view them as highly entertaining to shoot at. Drilled a gallente Derpship earlier on an alt. protip: Don't hover at low altitude on the leading edge of an assault line. it tends to draw the undivided attention of jerkoffs like me. Well with the prop mod you can hover where ever u please, because once activated no one can track you. When you turn it on, it instantly thrusts you to top altitude, the next pulse you should have prepared yourself for a forward movement, because the next pulse about 3 sec later will launch you in the direction of the thrusters and will create a small eve like warp tunnel around you as you move. If you turn it on wrong, say your nose is high and thrusters in reverse it will shoot you in the air backwards and is recoverable. Be prepared however for this because if there is an object behind you, your toast. When I say the initial thrust will give you max altitude instantly, I mean it, less then a sec and you are there. Fitting it is a problem, a big one. You need at least powergrid upgrades 4 with 2 10% power expanders if you want to fit a clone reanimation as well. My fit for my alt is as follows and will be about the best you can get, about cuz ill finish with ideal fit. Light shield booster, the less powergrid one Shield extender, less pg one Clone reanimation Ariel booster X2 missile turrets advanced 70pg X2 expanded pg Now ideal would be the same except -1 expanded pg +1 jovian thruster Why? Because that thruster will add a **** ton, 25% more speed to your Ariel booster and to your engine torque. You will need all pg skills to 5 for the final fit as well as a 15% expanded pg. The higher tier caldari one, ereyx or w\e can be fit easier with more buffer due to it already having a clone reanimation, however that ship also gets less pg and cpu then the other tiers. So I have yet to do the math on it. The stats are around with Myron...2500 shield buffer, I believe this could be increased with the ereyx to over 3k buffer and a recharge tank could be near 4k buffer. The Myron can also go buffer, but you either sacrifice the Ariel unit, which I advise against, ormyou get some dedicated gunners and pick ppl up etc by sacrificing the clone reanimation unit. Myron buffer will have 3200 shield about.
Issue here is the blasters take 100pg a piece and will throw you over, but blasters are the best on a DS if your good at flying at low altitudes imo. |

Best drop ship pilot I've seen in game yet. Word of advice - keep your fits to yourself. |

I'd rather see more drop ships. |
