On some of the Skirmish maps, primarily the maps with a cluster of objectives with few entrance points, it's currently far too easy for one side to shut out the other, if not completely redline them. While this creates a big incentive to grab that central cluster as quickly as possible, in many cases the game is essentially over once one side does so. The huge gap in skill/experience level among players right now exacerbates the problem.
Yes, it's incumbent upon the losing team to step up and break the winning team's hold on those objectives, and sometimes they do. But what usually happens is that the losing team switches to shooting gallery mode, sniping from the hills and making little progress, while the winning team is bored because they're basically kicking the enemy while they're already down. It isn't fun for anyone, even the team that's enjoying an easy win. I've been on both sides many times, and it's always boring.
I would suggest adding some sort of mechanic to get the losing team back in the game.
Once one side has held all objectives for a couple of minutes, for instance, perhaps a drop uplink randomly appears inside the complex. Or perhaps the losing team gains the ability to call an orbital strike. Or they get a temporary bonus to damage, run speed, armor or some other attribute. Or their MCC activates a special hack that will turn one of the objectives to their side if the winning team doesn't rush to retake it immediately. Whatever it is, just something to break the standoff so both sides are actually playing again.
Barring that, I would suggest massively increasing the damage benefit of holding all points simultaneously, so that once you've held them for a couple of minutes, the game is over. Whether you're winning or losing one of those games, they become pointless and embarrassing once one side is utterly dominating, and there's no point in continuing.

I get what you're saying, but I _really_ don't like the sound of the "stuff magically appearing in there to make it so we can get in" idea. The "MCC magic remote hack" might be even worse. The orbital bombardment one isn't as odious, but it still doesn't exactly float my dropship.
The "mechanic to get the losing side back in the game," if you ask me, is coordination, communication, strategy, and teamwork. Oh, and not having whole squads of snippy little chickenshits hiding in the hills behind the red line. So, of course, the game is lost, because you ARE going to have groups of four and more hiding back there. Bravely, bravely hiding and crying bitter tears about their KDRs or whatever the hell it is that snipers actually _do_ back there, but, hey.
_I'm_ still going to try. The guy told me to try harder to get gud, so I'm going to try harder to get one of those, as soon as I figure out what a "gud" is. ;-) |

There was forum that discussed this very issue and it provided a solution. Here's the link:

Good to see I'm not the only one that thinks this is a problem, and that the only solution is not "well, just coordinate and use strategy." However, while I love the idea of adding something like BF2142's Titan Mode (which was obviously the inspiration for Dust's Skirmish mode), that would essentially be a complete reworking of Skirmish mode's mechanics, whereas I think there are easier ways to, as that poster said, "Add some URGENCY to the game so even a team dominating has to be ready and on their toes." |
