That said, I would like it if the damage build-up only applied to the target you were shooting at as opposed to being a flat increase in damage the longer you hold down the button. People can get taken out very quickly by those things if someone just charges up on the ground and then starts to tunnel their intended target. If this is too drastic, then maybe in addition to this there could still be a less exaggerated damage increase after you hit the half-way mark on the overheat meter. Aside from damage, I've heard that the proto Lasers are literally impossible to overheat. If that's true then that obviously needs fixing. Just something to take it down a -very small- notch.

Firstly I hear that lasers aren't that great until you level up sharpshooter for them. But why I don't agree is because AR is the standard in basically every FPS game so even if another weapon were better you'd still see the majority using ARs because that's what people are most likely to be used to. Known to be versatile and effective at a good mix of ranges, it makes sense for people who don't know much about the game and/or don't have others to squad with to run with the AR. On the topic of lasers being OP, I have no idea if they are or not.. I'd have to use it and see for myself first.

Drops a heavy quickly, scouts are insta dead. Assaults are left barely breathing and logi have bombed armor left. Are they O.P no, could they use a reduction in damage, yes. Also most matches are in CQC so the laser does not shine here I don't have to tell you that though. I don't feel it is OP I know it has an optimum range and try to stay out of it. Just the same way the MD has one and if you come into it you will die get used to it. I do feel it needs a slight adjustment for CQC but how that is done I really don't have any idea for how to balance and adjustment yet.

Besides its not like the laser doesn't tell everyone on the freaking map EXACTLY where you are. There is NOTHING subtle about that weapon.

Its a little too simple to just get a heavy suit drop a skill or two in light sharp shooter and one point in laser rifle and still reap the whole benefit of the rifle. I think it should heat up faster before the beam is capable of taking out multiple targets spaced fairly apart.

I think the best fix for the LR is probably going to be a mechanic change which will change how it works, so beyond playing with it, I think it's a waste of time as a main weapon. For me it was the same with the Tac. I could see it wasn't going to last so I never bothered. I look forward to the new AR-like weapons ie Scrambler rifle etc. These endless QQ + balance threads are pretty lame.
