Anyone have any idea how to make EVE style weapons out of existing weapon categories?
Examples
Amarr laser weapons do more thermal damage the shorter ranged they are. HMGs are short ranged and powerful. Ergo, Amarr HMG could be a flamethrower.
Minmatar long range turrets are artillery. HAVs use the same naming conventions for their guns as EVE. Ergo, Minmatar Large Artillery turrets could be arcing artillery shells.

Those examples are definitely something I'd look forward to.
Some people (me included) want the Amarrian anti-infantry Heavy gun to indeed be a flame - or plasma - thrower.
I also expect some arcing rounds on the tank-grade artillery.
As for other weapon systems:
Caldari missiles + HMG = A rocket pod, design taken from a 21st Century attack helicopter. Spits micro-rockets at 700 RPM.
Amarr lasers + Forge Gun AV = for lack of a better word, Spartan Laser. Now he's finished his tanning session.
Gallente drones + Sidearm = Pistol that launches... plasma-spitting mechanical spiders? The horror! Kill it!
Minmatar artillery + Sniper = 75-cal that can headshot-kill a Heavy... if you can compensate for extreme bullet drop. |

Hmg mass driver minmatar
laser scambler weapons amarr
missles maybe forge gun caldari
blasters and current AR are more gallente
As more are added and the suits are tweaked to mirror their racial preferences youcwill see it more |

Not what I meant. Those are gun/race combos that already exist. I'm speaking of gun/race combo speculations. It's all for fun, but it may inspire someone. |

Minmatar: Light machine gun, 100+ magazine, low damage, high ROF, AR-like range, high kick
[LONG RANGE LIGHT RIFLE]
Gallente: I want a gun that fires an explosive drone disk that you must guide via remote control to the target Minmatar: I want a boltgun sniper rifle that fires explosive bolts, high bullet drop, explosive splash damage
[LIGHT MISCELLANEOUS]
Gallente: I want a rifle the releases a swarm of tiny drones that zap enemy HP continuously
[PISTOLS]
Caldari: I want a railgun pistol with optional charge for extra damage. If not, than a 1-shot-then-reload powerful explosive rocket pistol
[MELEE]
Minmatar: Improvised blowtorch "heatcutter", low damage initial damage, no charge, but continuous and accelerating damage
[SMG]
Amarr: I want an automatic close range electrolaser (AKA scrambler) weapon that fires horizontal lines of electricity
[HEAVY ANTI-INFANTRY]
Gallente: I want a plasma flame thrower with HMG-like range, less damage, but continuous burning damage Amarr: I want an arc cannon firing burning plasma lightning bolts described in Templar One

Glad that CCP knows to work on the drones that they're already developing before adding new ones - especially considering the Rapid Derp-ployment Vehicle's behavior when we call them in...
As for the thread topic, it seems like many weapons can fit into a certain "class" alongside other races' equivalents. Here's my analysis as to what these are:
Heavy
>Meat Grinder - weapon that will destroy enemy infantry, so long as it gets close enough. Example: HMG. Predicted Amarr: arc-plasma thrower.
>OMGWTFBBQ - AV weapon that does hilarious damage on direct hit. Example: Forge Gun. Predicted Minmatar: Artillery cannon.
Light
>Assault - versatle weapon, usually most effective at medium range. Examples: AR, LR. Predicted Caldari: DMR-type weapon.
>Sniper - Long-range weapon with pinpoint accuracy and high damage. Example: Sniper Rifle. Predicted Amarr: Scrambler Rifle.
>AV - allows non-Heavy suits to fight vehicles. Example: Swarm Launcher. Predicted Gallente: Plasma Cannon
>Support - applies sustained damage to an enemy squad, is a force-multiplier. Example: Mass Driver. Predicted Gallente: Drones.
>CQ - very close-range weapon, applying Meat Grinder-grade damage against a single target. Example: Shotgun. No racial predictions as of yet.
Sidearm
>Point Defense - accurate, short-medium range weapon for backup. Example: Scrambler Pistol. Predicted Minmatar: Flaylock.
>CQ Backup - very close-range weapon, useful when the target gets too close for your primary. Example: SMG. Predicted Gallente: automatic blaster pistol?
>Melee - "stealth" weapon that applies high damage to targets. Example: Nova Knives. Predicted Minmatar: Blowtorch. |

The minmatar equivalent of a forge gun will probably be some sort of heavy mortar- think of it like a very slow and VERY powerful mass driver. |
