Something really hit me cold when trying the open beta:
There is no combat tutorial.
In a console shooter, this is not a good thing. For my own part, I familiarized myself with the controls well enough thanks to their general intutiveness (I say general because I still throw the occasional grenade when trying to aim down my guns sights). But there is an incredible amount of confusing that could be alleviated with a simple 'Boot Camp' tutorial mission for first time players.
For best effect, I think it should be a aolo PVE encounter, so players can thresh through relatively weak foes while getting a handle on all the controls and mechanics they should be aware of.
Depending on how much needs to be explained, there could just as easily be a 'basic training' or 'firing range' type tutorial to cover the absolute basics, before moving on to the actual 'boot camp' tutorial which covers the mechanics and finer details of the many ways to blast things. |

Even so, being left to figure out the controls, potentially while being shot at, comes at a person as suddenly and unpleasantly as getting slapped by a cold fish.
A boot camp, or even some manner of firing range tutorial would help ease that, I think, and make sure the first battle of a players carreer is spent with more knowing what to do, and less trial and error. |

It's a no brainer to have some type of tutorial - I would have loved a few minutes to learn the controls without a sniper up my ass. And what military commander would want to send an untrained guy with all that gear into battle without some type of training? |
