No SP cap. Through reasons explained by others... it seems like a viable option. |

CCP thought about removing the SP cap entirely, but later decided to leave the changes up to the community - the voting thread and the upcoming addition of the Rolling Cap is the result.
So in short, they don't have this option because it was decided against already. |

Coming from a long term MMO player here... Not sure why people had such a gripe with no SP cap. As is the case in all MMO's skill is really more important than anything else. Some people have more time... some have less. Us mmo players have learned to accept this and just get better at playing. |

Too bad all the forum warriors never get on IRC to listen to the arguements for the removal of the SP Cap, it really is the only good option tbh. |

Yeah, lets give the option for the most disliked SP idea in DUST...
Sure it is liked by those who will be able to play the most often, but not by those with classes or jobs or other things to prevent them from playing a majority of every day. |

I would say because this game is tied to an MMO that does not have unlimited SP grinding. That said it is a different type of game and FPS players like to grind for some points. |

What you mean to say: "Those of us who spend all our time playing have learned to accept this." amiright?
Also, it's not hard to be good at something, if it is literally the only thing that you do. Chances are, you'll figure out every single possible way to be better at it.
Also, confirming that we are not mmo players.
..neither have some of us spent more than 20 years in the genre, and literally played the first mmo's to hit the market, when they hit the market.
edit for a couple thoughts:
How many games that have a system like you have suggested have failed over the past 10 years? As far as I know, almost all of them, and those that may be considered to have some success are functioning as F2P with limited players. WoW of course, seems to just keep going, inexplicably, despite it being a dinosaur, or maybe because of it.
Why? Well, it's really simple if you break it down a bit. First, you can skill up from 0-cap in somewhere between 1-6 weeks generally. Players who do this either start over or start demanding more 'end-game' content.
The character is not sustainable. The Developer has failed to provide incentive to continue playing it. Given some time, most players will move on to something else when it enters beta or is released during that timeframe, provided there is something that interests them.
Players who do not cap in these games become inundated with the grind, because it really is a grind after awhile. Why? Because the Developers need something to slow players down in their rise to the level cap. To do this, they eliminate drops, redesign crafting to make it a longer process of completion, and generally prevent those players from having the gear required to advance in level effectively.
Meanwhile, end-gamers are looking at Epic Gear. Why? Because it is the only way they can be tricked into feeling a sense of accomplishment and progression. A way of convincing them that there character is worth maintaining, because they are special.
And so, more end-game content comes along that does little more thanprovide epic loot and/or allow them to restart their characters leveling through early content, but with the added bonus of achieving special bonuses for doing so.
We're at F2P now.
The game failed; you just haven't noticed yet. All that remains are some 1337 PvPers and Epic Guilds, and a few casual players getting bored with the duldrum of grinding for coins to buy better gear off the end-gamers when they choose to sell it because it is no longer available as drops in the game, or if it is, only very--extremely--rarely.
Why? Because the end-gamers complained to the Devs that it was too easy to aquire, and the Devs not only conceded that, seeing the end-gamers skill at aquiring it, but realized that it being easily accessible meant players would level faster. Back to point two.
..wondering if you might be seeing it now, for those of you who don't seem to get this. Of course, I could be completely off-base too.. I've been watching this long enough to think that I'm not though.
EVE is different, and Dust is part of that, though leaning slightly in that other direction. Most of us I think, would rather it didn't lean any more than slightly. |

Because we are FPS's not MMOer's.
CCP is just trying to find a level play ground that we all can just get along in so that we can keep pew pewing each other for 7+ years.

Keep in mind that this is CCP. They are coming from an MMO environment. It should be expected that Dust (which links to EVE (the MMO)) will have more mmo qualities to it. FPS's and MMO's both are very different in the way that they handle things. I wouldn't expect to get an mmo from Activision (not Activision Blizzard), why are you asking for an FPS from CCP? |

Technically, this is a mmofps, and I play EVE too. I've also played a lot of other mmorpgs and some other mmos, but never another mmofps, even if I did play BFBC2, a bit of TF2, and even once tried BF2142 and--I think--even one of the original CoD or MW, or something like that. It was set in WWII. ..enough acronyms to sink a battle ship.
Right, I also tried Brink. Can't recall which games I've beta tested aside from this though, but I'm fairly certain more than a handful of them. |
