I would like to cite a game that was released in 2003.
EVE online.
Back then, there were frigates, cruisers, battleships and industrial ships. That was it. The best mining ship was the Apocalypse. The overview was non-existent, travelling anywhere was difficult and much more pioneer-esque, there were no t2 modules, there were no player owned structures, there wasn't factional warfare, there wasn't any sovereignty wars, there was no skill queue, the corporation interface was much more simple, doing missions was a lot trickier, there were no warp gates, no incursions, the graphics engine back then was completely different, the drones were completely different back then as you could control 10 at a time and they all did 50% less damage.
Now, there are battlecruisers, destroyers, interceptors, heavy assault ships, assault ships, covert ops ships, black ops ships, recon ships, logistics ships, marauders, strategic cruisers, dreadnaughts, motherships, titans, transport ships, freighters, jump freighters, Exhumers, Mining Barges, Capital Industrial Ships. (I think I covered all of them.) Also, the graphics engine has been completely reworked, a rather advanced overview system, with an excellent crime watch system. CCP wanted to implement all of these changes all at once at one point. But to make sure a game that had a living economy would survive, they did it very slowly and in stages.
Having seen the success that was EVE Online, I am excited to see how DUST 514 will grow, as I -KNOW- it will. So take heart, players new to DUST, and players new to the EVE universe. The best is yet to come.
CCP has made their name for bringing content to the table and doing a rather good job at it.
I would like to recommend this post to be marked a sticky so new posters can refer to it if they need to. |

Actually, I am feeling quite lethargic regarding this game. This thread too. |

I thought missions were first introduced in the Red Moon Rising expansion?
Gather there were no battleship rats anywhere, either. |

No, I seem to remember missions being available when the game was released. It's possible in red moon rising that they redid the agent system. The other things we didn't have were loyalty points, and we didn't have epic story arcs. |

Those are both pretty recent.
In any case, I cheerfully have seen and +1'd your point. |

A good point. There is still plenty of time for DUST to grow. Thank-you for pointing that out, I was losing faith in DUST just a bit until you reminded me of this. May the way of the Mercenary grow and flourish!! |
