So since you guys have done a great job with adding dynamic weather/lighting to these maps, you should maybe add this feature down the road.
Have Equipment slot items like "Night Vision Goggles" or "Thermal Imaging Scope"
These would be very handy when you land on site and the conditions are heavy fog, or if its a night OP |

I like this idea. I believe it's come up quite a few times so far, keep it fresh and maybe it'll happen. :)

Night vision goggles and thermal imaging scopes both work on Infra Red emissions (with different accuracy levels). While they are wonderful for night ops, you'd be better off using your own eyes in fog. Think of fog as a hugs wall of cold. IR based imaging devices see nothing but white in fog. Just pointing that out. :)
What could really be cool is a multispectrum visor a la Predator 2. Remember the scene where he couldn't see the strike force and kept switching between different spectrums? :) |

Thermal and NV systems are really nice for night-ops, but in a universe where ground deployments are sent to lava planets (where everything is hot), planets full of fog, and worlds covered in light-blocking liquids... I'm thinking we need something a little more up-to-date by 221st Century standards (not a typo, that's the century of New Eden) Functionally, it might look something like Black Ops II's Millimeter Scanner attachment, just added to a Predator-style thermal-type overlay. On deep-ocean fights (someday!), you just get the MMS effect, as everything's cold. My hefty techno-lore explanation is merely used to justify it working on any future planet CCP sends us to.
Ultrasonic-Multispectral Optical System (UMOS) An invention first cobbled together by tribal guerrillas in the Minmatar Uprising, UMOS systems allow a soldier to see their enemies clear as day, no matter how exotic the conditions can get. Multispectral optics are the most-used portion. The many crystals used to shift radiation into the visible light spectrum are traditionally taken from the weapons of Amarr slave-catchers, then placed in-line with a photomultiplier to enable night-vision quality even in the deeper layers of gas giant planets - where only radio waves penetrate. In most situations, the ultrasonic echolocation piece is used to shift the images to produce a pseudo-3d binocular image, aiding with acquisition and weapon aiming. In rare cases, such as on lava planets or deep in oceanic worlds, the Ultrasonic piece shifts into a full scanner, producing a microscopically-accurate image of whatever is in front of you. However, as IFF is a radiation-based system, it is advised to shoot first, and ask questions later. |

Hmm. I am actually mixed on this thanks in part to the replies. First, having weather and sunshine is nice but it is very inconsistent with 221st Century Tech.
As an old hack of programmer I know why they are doing it. It is a cool feature and doesn't take that much hardware to do. It is pretty as well. The graphical results are good but they make no sense in the game and are ultimately distracting for me because I am thinking about the fact that the stupid visor doesn't work. Maybe they were supplied by the same programmer/supplier as the small missile turrets.
But I want a display that works. Blocks the sunshine, enables thermal vision (both directions), the fancy sub-sonic-hedgehog-thingie and have it be consistent with the world. The current version isn't.
Of course, making it something that could be damaged momentarily with a Flux Grenade could be cool.
But not something that need another bazillion SP points and a 270000 ISK Skill Book. |

aww someone can't handle the sun, Stay out of the kitchen. THe lighting of the sun is just fine...
Now if they almost had a night time map where there is no sun, having skills for night vision to give you the edge is nice. |
