I guess they're using the logic that everyone will have access to it and it will be a free to play game, so essentially.....the open beta is a full release.
But I'm curious to know if CCP has said anything to confim truth in that Well it's not the official release as such, open beta is open beta BUT eve has been in open beta since 2003 and it never had an official release. If this was a disk title then it would be a different story, as you need the disk for it to be an official release, but as dust is a digital title then one could argue that although its an open beta it is being released to the general public and the open beta will seamlessly transition from open beta to whatever follows after that (full content, expansions etc). So while its not THE release, it's as good as (in digital title terms)
I think you are incorrect, and here is the proof: "Eve Online was released in North America and Europe in May 2003"
Certainly, EVE is in constant development, and new expansions are added quite often, but you have to pay a subscription for playing. And that, in most cases, indicates that the game is not being tested anymore. My point is, I think that if you'd take EVE from 2003, it would be by itself a complete standalone game, not lacking any content planned initially, etc. People were not testing this game anymore, they were playing it.
Dust is clearly not at this stage at the moment. There are many things yet to be added in order to fulfill the devs' promises and tons of bugs to get fixed. A game in such state cannot be considered officially released under any circumstances, unless it's War Z. Moreover, there is lack of clarity in Dust 514 F2P model for me, which I think about in my thread "Official release and F2P model" . And even if the question I ask in that thread is proven wrong, I surely believe there is going to be an official release. I don't think CCP would stay as quiet as now if 22nd would mark the OR date.
Oh, and please don't tell me that any MMO is constantly in open beta. Why? Because, following this logic, World of Warcraft is still in open beta. The craziest idea ever, imo.
P.S. I'm terribly sorry for the lack of links, but my phone keeps telling me that I can't use HTML input, although earlier everything was alright. I'll update my post with the links first time I get to my computer. |

God, you confuse it more and more, people. Why the fact that developers constantly add new content to a game means that the game is considered in open beta? Once again, people are not testing EVE, they've been playing it since 2003. Moreover, following this logic, EVE players are paying for an open beta... There were several cases where, yes, people had to pay in order to participate in beta. But I believe that EVE had a beta of its own, and March 23, 2003 marked the official release, when people now had to pay a sub fee in order to play. We won't have to pay anything come Official Release, true, but the game's state is going to be a lot more elaborate and cleaner than the current build. Ok, I've already said Ina previous post what I'm trying to say again, so I'll just quote it here:

And, as CCP Frame clarified, open beta = open beta. For the love of Empress Sarum, please don't confuse it with official release. |
