An idea I would like to propose.
In the case of actual orbital strikes from an eve player (not percision strikes from the MCC) I would like to see an additional option available so that the squad commander can target the orbital bombardment themselves as with the current state of things, but a secondary option so that they can relinquish targetting control to the eve pilot in orbit.
If the second option is selected, full orbital strike control is given to the eve pilot so that they can pull up the Dust overview map in the Eve client and be able to target the strike where ever they choose. The benefit of this option is that the Eve pilot will have a slightly better zoom and resolution of the map than what the Dust mercs currently have and there would be more information avilable providing a more effective strike.
The downside of this option is that the Eve player must be trusted by the mercs on the ground not to land the orbital strike on their own team (if and when team killing is allowed).
As for the WP in Dust. Becuase the strike would be much more accurate coming from the Eve player, the squad leader only receives assist points on all kills equalling to half that of what they would have received if they had of called in the same orbital strike themselves.
This idea will help to further strengthen the link between Eve and Dust players and will create a new dynamic to the game whilst only slightly effecting current game mechanics. It also opens a pathway to the options and modes of gameplay we have seen advertised and intended by CCP in the Dust 514 trailers such as the Eve: Future Vision Trailer. |

Eventually, I hope to see EVE players capable of initiating orbital strikes completely on their own accord... well, with CONCORD planetary regulations. EVE players can only make one free-will O-strike every 3 minutes. This same restriction is applied to Districts, granting DUST-side some relieve. If the EVE player is in hisec and wishes to bombard on their whim, they have to be within either: >the corp handing out the attack contract. >the corp owning the District being attacked. >one of the corps fighting the DUST battle. >in a corp with an active wardec against any of the above, including allies in said wars. If the EVE player is un-affiliated in hisec, they get CONCORDOKKEN for shooting a hisec DUST battle. They still get to shoot you until the cops arive, however. Obviously, nullsec onlly has the time restriction for EVE players. DUST players can call in the strikes whenever they have the WP. EVE players obliging these requests do so separate of the free-bombard timer, and with no cooldown.
Why the tight restrictions on freely bombarding planet fights? Without them, factions like GSF would completely "glass" any planet that even looks like it's contested, which would remove a good portion of the supposed impact of DUST 514. At least between the 3min strikes, the DUST players can still beat the odds. |
