So every one crys that the new MD is op (and I reluctantly agree), what I want to know is why I only ever see logis use them?
I get why logis use them and why hevies and scouts don't but why dont assaults? They would seemingly be the best for them.
Please if you have used a MD in an assault suit, let me know why you do or don't use it anymore. |

Sure, I think that previously-MD-Assault users became after wipe a Logistics. Beside that I think that MD(with-out Flux grenade) is more support weapon and should not be use in first-line - Logistics in squad formation usually set to be behind Heavy/Assault to be able to tell who need armor to fix and when target is without shield help to finish him off with MD. |

Too many other, better choices. The MD has limited ammo. You have to carry a Hive or work in a squad. With all the noobs that isn't all that likely in a pick up game.
The Scout Suit is faster and jumps higher. That may be emergent game play but it gives them a method for staying alive that the currently Nerfed AR no longer provides. Before the AR Nerf I ran a Scout with AR for Hacking or dropping an Uplink. A quick run behind enemy lines, drop an uplink and get a squad to back me up and hold the objective I was currently hacking. An Exile AR would let you slow anybody up and at decent ranges. That meant your paper thin armor wasn't a big issue if you knew how to aim at the head.
The Assault Suit gets two slots, can pack some significant firepower in them and is advancing AR skills anyway. Light Weapon skills work on it as well. I have tried it but frankly it gets me dead too often. Using it as a area suppression weapon is good but unless you are actually killing them they will take you out. The sidearm as a backup to the MD is ... nearly useless frankly as they also Nerfed the SMG.
Maybe we should switch to Nerf bats. Seems to be the direction we are heading. |

I use Assault + MD pretty regularly. I think it's the best suit for the weapon. Another guy in my corp likes his Dragonfly Scout and an MD and he does pretty well with it.
I don't think the MD is good on a logi because it takes a lot of CPU that they need for equipment.
And it's not OP dam it. |

So a 0.2 second increase in the time it takes to ADS is enough to make the weapon unbalanced? FoV was lowered, doom mode is crap. Burst HMG's are now usable. |

An assault rifle contains more damage per magazine than a mass driver, and is way easier to use since it just shoots exactly where you point without having to predict paths. A basic variant standard assault rifle (which does 31 damage per shot) for example has 387.5 damage PER SECOND, which means in 2 SECONDS, it does 775 damage, enough to kill basically anyone but a well built heavy (which would just a second more second). The assault rifle can be used effectively at a greater ranges, and has no risk of damaging the user at close range.
Compare this to a basic variant standard mass diver. An MD fires 60 rounds per minute, which is 1 round per second. It does 225 shots per second if its a direct hit; did you read that? only 225 per second, and that is ONLY if you get a direct hit (rare). The basic variant standard AR does 387.5. Landing a direct hit with a mass driver not only takes more skill to do then getting direct hits with the AR (since you have to predict trajectory), but also does LESS damage per second. Now to the splash damage, the splash damage is 115 per shot (and per second since 1 shot per second), and there are 6 shots.
In exchange for the higher ddifficulty to use, less damage per magazine (1350 < 1860) , and the crappy DPS compared to the AR, the mass driver gets to bypass cover, and damage multiple enemies with splash damage. Its a fair trade-off.
I don't get how people can say the mass driver is OP, OP compared to what exactly? Weapons of the same class (light, heavy, sidearm) have to be compared to each other and balanced against each other so that they all have their roles and uses, yet no one can make an argument with math and stats of the mass driver compared to the AR to suggest that the MD is overpowered (I pick AR since its the most used light weapon). It really really bothers me that people whine and complain about the MD, or any other light weapon that cones close to being as good or useful as the AR, the AR isn't suppose to be the only good weapon. People like this really **** me off, and if you are reading this and you're one of these people that want to ruin the MD and turn it into a crappy novelty again, then screw you and go do some math. |

That's not necessarily true, in my experience. The MD I have equipped uses 38 CPU, which is in the same ballpark as a standard assault rifle. By the time you factor in skillsets that reduce the CPU requirements of weapons and whatnot, the MD is really a bargain.

MD i dont think is practical for true assault players who are frontline mercs that need to handle multiple threats in quick succession within a very short period of time.
Yes an MD is IMO better in 1v1 than an AR in CQC situation but at the optimal distance of an AR its very hard to 1v1 let alone take on multiple enemies with an MD with the same efficiency and accuracy that an AR can.
Also the 6 rounds per clip and 18 rounds total just really isnt practical on a frontline basis, Can assault classes and scout classes use them well of course but it changes the nature in which they have to play. An entire squad of MD users may sound appealing also but once you get past CQC range it would be very hard to handle threats beyond 30-40m given all the variables you need to account for when firing an MD that you dont have to worry about with an AR.
MD's also get better at height which again makes it a great support weapon but you need that good mixture of weapons.
As to why logi's use MD more than any other weapon, with no sidearm slot you need a weapon that can allow great suppression at range but also decimate in CQC and that is the very description of MD. |

The AR is better than a MD for most assaults for many reasons.
The AR is effective at engaging at any angle of landscape uphill or downhill, where the MD has a serious disadvantage when firing uphill. The AR damage speed is much better too, pull the trigger and if someone is in your sight you hit them instantly no matter the distance. Where the MD has travel time and the more you increase the distance between you and the target you have a smaller chance of hitting them due to their time to adjust their movements to dodge. The clip size is funny really I can take down multiple targets with one clip with an MD but not very likely. The AR is a little bit different I take down two with one clip often not all the time but often enough to notice.
The assault being upfront in combat and the ways you have to engage with the MD to be truly devastating are plenty of reasons for an assault to pick the AR over them MD any day. Unless you are running it in a special fire-team designed to use it to their advantage. Also most of your assaults are singles in pubs so they have no allies on comms to help set up the MD for devastation. |

Why do logis run with Mass Driver? Because we can shoot over the heads of the people we are supporting and soften up the targets. We can also take out targets that are in places that are difficult for direct fire weapons to reach, such as ledges and around corners. An assault can certainly fill the same role and has the benefit of carrying a sidearm for CQC encounters as well but it just naturally fits in with the logistics role.
I've also seen logis running the assault role but with the ability to carry more equipment and hack faster.
That's what is nice about the DUST system. You can try interesting combinations. |

I have also seen some decent logi/snipers cough..Sleepy..cough cough. Yea their hit box is bigger but when you can shoot like him furry or cutter then you really don't need to worry about being hit first lol. |
