How do the big corps that mean business communicate?
Do you use UVTs or have a PC nearby with TS etc?
I'm interested because eventually I intend to join a big corp that means business and UVTs cost aurum. |

Eve corps/alliances generally use teamspeak (or equivalent) and i see Dust officers of corps/alliances having to at least adopt these programs to communicate occasionally eve side. Inside Dust 514 there are team/squad chats that can be utilized... you can get a UVT to talk on Corp channels and other player created channels but do not need it for team/squad chats |

The truth? Both. In order to interface between Eve and Dust players, TeamSpeak tends to be more important. For day-to-day, several guys in the membership have UVT's.
Honestly though, it's really important that we see the Corp UVT become available or at least a return to the old functionality of the Corp chat feature. This idea that every single person in your corporation can either get a UVT, can be given one, or will be able to purchase one on a secondary market is wrong. Just how wrong has been beaten to death. |

Thanks for replying - UVTs are the thing to do then.
I think this is the most controversial aspect of the aurum store. |

If the corp-wide UVT is added, and both versions become purchasable in the player market once the two economies are eventually united, I will be a happy Dust Bunny. Until that happens, the aurum UVT set up that we have right now will have to suffice for whenever we want to use voice chat in Corp channels. Teamspeak/Mumble/Ventrilo are excellent alternatives for such things, especially since they are free! :) |

Funny how a free to play game is the only one I've played to rely so heavily on team work yet ask players to pay to utilize it in game.... >.< |

Its only with corp channels as far as I recall Digi, you can still use voice chat in squads and on your team for free. |

yeah, it's completely insane that they would ask for $6 a year from hardcore players who invest hundreds of hours into the otherwise free game, amirite? |

You can almost do everything you need to do in corp channel with text. Or if just the directors, people that make the decisions, etc. can talk on the UVTs.
What if all 200 members of the corp were yammering away on UVT in corp chat all the time? Probably end up spending more time with your UVT teling people to shut up than you would actually getting anything done.
It works better to go to squad or team for actual battles.
But I think it would be reasonable to offer a corp UVT that the directors or CEO could buy for all their members that would be cheaper than those same people all chipping in to get a voice server on another system
Oh, aso there is that whole plex concept in EVE. In Dust it might work if players buying UVTs with AUR could re-sell them for ISK on the market. Heck, I would do it.
Edit* Anything that keeps the chat options on PS3 is better. Not everyone in a corp is going to want to set up an alternative means of using voice communication for DUST next to the Playstation |

Yes, I agree - it is a free game, but joining a corp is important for the most dedicated players.
However, I can understand that CCP have to make a living.
It's difficult to think of a solution off the top of my head. |

We use mumble, allows our 10k members to talk to each other quite easily plus there's a lot of extra security in place. |

the only reason they do it is because corps have a player limit of over 2000 dont they? Could you imagine the amount of stress there server would get from a 2000 man chat room? and they would be doing it for free? Even if it was free, would you really want a room with that many people in it? smaller private channels would be created to help spread out the amount of spam people would be getting, and as we all know, private channels were never free voice chat to begin with, so people would still have to buy UVT's unless they want to stick in squad chat. |

My corp just uses vent, even for Dust. We just put it on Vox activate and roll like normal. The only people at a disadvantage are the ones that have their PS3 in a different room than their PC, but they can still listen on a ventriloid app. |
