Going on a thread that i had put up in the feedbacks/requests section about the Tactical shield manipulation skill. I would like to go further into the lack of armor and shield skills (or engineering/mechanics if you will) that are available in Dust. So far there are not too many skills affecting the shield and armor departments of this game. The only remaining shield/engineering skills i could see being implemented, other than Tactical shield manipulation at this point, would be the compensation group of skills. There are currently 4 different compensation skills used in EVE, EM, Thermal, Kinetic, and Explosive compensation. Each skill point spent into the respective skill grants a 3% passive resistance bonus to that specific weapon type. As with armor, or the Mechanics range of skills I feel that they would also need the compensation range of skills of course (at the same effectiveness as the shields versions). But there is one more thing i think Dust 514 is truly missing to get it to fit right into the EVE universe, and that would be the rigging skills. Rigging could possibly only be implemented on vehicles but it would be possible to have it on dropsuits as well, using it to modify damage with certain weapons, reduce weight in favor of speed (rather than having just multiple dropsuits, players would be able to further customize the loadout to their own needs).

Also we dont have the diff ammo types yet so atm its pointless
Plus rigging should be in for vehicles/dropsuits because it would add more options so you could free up a couple of slots for other things or vice versa |

its not the ammo types that cause different damages. the assault rifle, submachine gun, and sniper rifle are all kinetic. The shotgun and forge gun are considered hybrid so they do kinetic and thermal. The laser is the only thermal at the moment. the mass driver, swarm launcher and grenades all do explosive damage. flux grenades do EM damage. so basically yes it would have effect right now. |

+1 for the rigging agreement though :D |

But they do not have specific values for each weapon to how much damage they dish out of the 4 types
Also dropsuits do not have specific values either to the resistances of the 4 damage types |

Dropsuits themselves may not have a differing resistance to the damage types, but I know for a fact that all dropsuits share the same fact that shields are more effective than armor against thermal damage and explosive damage, and less effectve against heat and EMP weapons.
This is proven by gameplay and therefore they clearly have some set values in place for shield and armor resistance to those damage types. |

Also in one of the loading screens in game, you can read all the differences between weapon effectiveness and shields/armor. |

Not yet, but THIS SPACE 4 RENT until I can think of some decent focus points. The lack of defense compared to the outright slavish devotion to offense really irritates me, and it gets worse and worse over time. It's why we see heavy militia now, but a good deal will swap to assault within a week or so. Being a fatarse target is going to get you killed if you can't keep your defense up to the rapidly rising offense. |

Your quote is exactly the reason i feel more shielding and armor boosting skills are needed, doesnt anyone else feel that? |
