Let me try this again.
The "Codebreaker" would be a new piece of equipment that is specific to hacking. The user would install it onto a hackable object (null cannon/enemy vehicle/turrets/supply depots/etc.) and walk away. The "Codebreaker" would then hack the object for you, with a penalty hacking speed of about 120%. Better tiers would reduce this penalty, and allow you to carry more "Codebreakers" at a time, since it will be used up upon finishing the hack. Enemies would also be able to see the "Codebreaker" and shoot it down before the hack completes.

I like the idea but I would rather have a piece of equipment you have to physically place on the instillation or vehicle your hacking. It still allows you to hack the objective while running around taking care of other business, but with your idea I feel it would be too easy to hack an objective from a hidden corner even with the cooldown you mentioned. |

I think I would rather it be a placeable object as well. You spend something like 20% of your hack time placing the auto-hacker thing, and then it does its thing and takes 100% of the normal hack time (or more if it needs a penalty) to hack on its own. Players should be able to shoot it to destroy it and stop it from finishing. |

Something that slightly increases hack-distance might work; perhaps 5-10% added distance. A placable object, to facilitate distant hacking would have to be single-use only, since it would be too tempting to simply hide it and re-hack constantly.
What I'd like to see is a tool for "hardening" the hack/virus, so when the reds come around, it is take a bit (3-10%) longer to hack it. Taking up an equipment-slot, it would not be a 1st go-to object, but used in the initial hacks. |

I agree. Searching for this piece of equipment that's hacking an objective would be frustrating. |

I like this idea we just need to make it noticable like making a loud beeping noise and lights like a drop uplink so it wouldn't be to hard to find. That would be perfect |

How about, instead of auto hacking, it would just allow you to hack from a remote location, after placing it? A scout could sneak in, place the codebreaker, sneak out, and hack with less of a chance for people to kill them when trying to react to the hack. |

I like this, Maybe there could even be a Module for detecting it, and also detecting other equipment hidden(not on the map as in a marker thing so a scout could specialize in it.) |

That's brilliant, a damn nice idea. Also, good game today, we had one epic standoff on the mountain once I destroyed your tank friend. |

As far as a module for detecting it, how about letting active scanners do that when they're fixed? They were pointless enough as it was. |

You could also put down a mine near the codebreaker. This would make a very clever trap. |

Then where it would be placed would spawn on the item on a fixed location that never changes, to avoid abuse. |

...wait, don't we already have a passive-boosting Codebreaker module? I do agree that this would be a better use of the name, but not sure about the "set it and forget it" usage. How about, you place it, then it feeds off of allies CPUs to hack its objective faster?
When placed, this version would interface with allied IFF signals, accessing dropsuit backup processors to aid in its extremely-long hacking algorithm. The more friendlies nearby, the quicker it hacks (but slower than the same amount hacking directly). Enemies can interfere with it by placing their own Codebreaker down. Once down, their presence nullifies yours in the same fashion. Of course, you can just destroy the Codebreaker to stop it as well. Only 1 per objective site per team, due to coding complication issues. >blue Codebreaker +allies = auto-hacking >red Codebreaker + enemies = nullifies same number of allies.
In short - these modules let you choose to "hack" a site in a similar manner as in other games - gradual turning by player presence on the capture point. It is still faster (and cheaper) to hack the point directly, which means you would only want to use it against a heavily-defended site, when you need more guns than hackers. It should be noted that, as a hacking module, you can do this to any installation - and even vehicles, should the enemy leave one around. |

I don't like it really, the point of hacking a point is to take control of it which takes your concentration and is a risk should you do it alone with no one to watch your back. You already hack points fast enough the only time you're at real serious risk is if you''re trying to stop a hack going through to completion. And suggesting putting on something that is either slower than you are or has an initial setup time just seems like a waste. If you're out and go to hack a point alone thats your risk after all consider to shop a hack from a distance you can shoot at someone and kill them but if something is stuck to the surface of the hacking screen how are you going to possibly stop that unless you're up close and looking at the screen it'd pretty much make for a sure hack unless someone was right there to run in, see no one was there, turn to the screen and shoot it off. This in turn would lead to campers with remote explosives or something watching the point again making for an almost assured hack. I say leave it alone. |

How about you have to place it in a specific place - say the red sphere hologram we're all so accustomed to by now. It takes a while to place, and once placed starts hacking immediately, so you better get out of there.
This could be used tactically. If you remote hack there's too much opportunities to involve a distraction - which while cool, I feel might unbalance the game slightly, however...
I don't know. Just make it have to be placed on a specific location so people don't scramble around trying to find it once they get there. |
