Yea, I said it. Half of you hate me now just because I used the other M word.
We need to have something to fuel BPCs and BPOs to make them in line with the EVE equivalents, so why not add science and mining to DUST? Let people skill into science to research their BPOs, or manufacturing to decrease how much mineral you need across the board, and mining to get those minerals.
We should have to do noncombat mining to fuel our Blueprints... not just BPO mind you. Make people do a mining game to earn the ability to fight, and you can sell your excess minerals to the richer players who can't be bothered with it (AKA people who bought the BPOs). Add a few mining tools for non combat use, Light, Heavy, and Gear slots, some modules to increase yield, skills for it all, maybe some indigenous life to add threat like the rats do in belts, and voila.
And these will be unique minerals, not EVE ones, or else that just kills the whole idea. Why mine in DUST when you can send a HULK out for a minute to out-mine half the player base's efforts in a day? Besides, Tritanium is useless on a planet anyway if the flavor text is to be believed. |

You missed the fact that eve players already can build our equipment. Thus already they will be sending supplies in massive bulk. once we get in the real show-business and get into serious contracts people will quickly see the advantage of having Eve-support. |

Now we mine by just not using the Dampener when we leave the MCC. |

You sure about that or are you just assuming because the BPOs are on the market that the eve players will be able to make the stuff?
Have you looked at the BPOs on the market for the Infantry Gear? Not a single one of them has a Bill of Materials, for all we know, they could require stuff that hasn't even been implemented in the game. |

Danke, mein kamarad. This precisely. All the 'Blueprints' we have function as actual items, which is a deviation from the norm in EVE nomenclature. Either the store will begin to sell actual weapons and BPO's will work like they do in EVE, or we should have to supply the materials for all the weapons and mods we choose to use.
And as I said, and DP reiterated, many of the minerals in EVE don't work well outside of space. The most common material in EVE, used for literally almost everything, CANNOT BE USED IN AN ATMOSPHERE.
Tritanium: The main building block in space structures. A very hard, yet bendable metal. Cannot be used in human habitats due to its instability at atmospheric temperatures. Very common throughout the world.
Ergo, there ought to be some things we can get only planetside. |

Mining sounds cool... as long as there are lots of random attacks from infestations that need to be blasted. If there's no risk, probably not worth it. |

No, we should not. It is a FPS game. First Person Shooter. You may not like fighting, but there are plenty of us who do and do not want to have to waste our face shooting time with non-face shooting activities. |

Then be one of those people who buys the minerals instead of mines them for themselves. We do that in EVE all the time. Think people mine every bit of ore for every ship they plan on using? You don't wanna do it, the DON'T DO IT, spend your ISKies, and don't whine at those who do. |

I don't want to do it. I don't do it. I don't play EVE.
I like DUST. I play DUST. I might play EVE, it sounds fun, but I <3 my FPS games, and taking ISK or time away from the face shooting is not something I want. Mining sounds fine for you, but it's not for me.
What if CCP put new types of mining in EVE for gear needed in DUST? That way I can keep my FPS, and you can keep your RPG. |

That's the plan. Plenty of PvE in the mines from creatures, and possibly some PvP in the form of enemy scouting teams or attempted ownership flips. |

I would like to point out that the structures were fighting on are giant mining / industry platforms akin to an oil well / refinery / factory. And I believe the plan for DUST is that we, the mercs, can park out corp MCC next to a planet and forcefully take some EVE players mining / industry installations for our own nefarious purposes. Now I am sure said egger will return and bombard us / hire mercs to reclaim what we stole. But so long as we hold that installation we get the juicy materials it makes.
So you go ahead and pick away at those rocks by yourself. I'll be over here conquering mining platforms from EVE players and putting in Anti Orbital batteries so they can't take them back... |

The problem is that we die A LOT more than the egg... well most of the eggers. The costs would add up rather quickly unless your a sniper then you would keep your vast reserves of minerals safe and unmolested.
While I would love to see industry in dust so I don't have to buy everything the current bpos work better for try hard and people like hin cause well ya know they TRY HARD. |

Dear lord do you really want go mining with a forgegun and a logibro who keeps throwing nano hives at you so you can hammer the same rock for a hour? Let the eve guys do that in space with their fancy ships. |

When did I say that it would be using Forge Guns and Nanohives? Don't be putting words in my mouth Tank Boy. We would have specialized gear, light and heavy class 'weapons' for mining, and mining wouldn't be just shooting rocks. Over in EVE to mine you lock a rock, hit F1, and wait. Over here we can have an actual GAME of it, some kind of minigame where you look for the sweet spots, or actually have to scan for veins, or need to be careful not to destroy the minerals, maybe even cave systems and having to worry about ignitable gasses. Look at all the combat skills I just gave a mining ability to(scanning, melee, nova knife). Just because mining in EVE is one thing, and a weapon over here is an 'altered mining tool' doesn't mean we'd use it. Check Greene 'modifies' a chainsaw with a canoe paddle. Can you still use the result to safely cut trees? |
