My previous forum post in general discussion 'regarding dropships', here: https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=411930#post411930
I'm a dedicated dropship pilot and since the move to Tranquility, i've only skilled into making the best fitting possible, with these new blaster settings. At the end of last build, I reached proto-blaster turrets and my gunners and I will point out that, they, infact kick ass
The blasters are perfect for laying down cover fire when i'm flying down low, picking up / deploying clones. They don't do as much damage and are harder to aim compared to the older missile turret builds, but seeing as the missile turrets might as well be bean bag guns, the scattered blaster turret is the best small turret in the game.
BUT however, I can't act as a proper dropship pilot as much as I'd like, because the dropship is made of bloodyglass. Now, I like to call myself an experienced pilot and have proven to be able to fly my way out of the most hazardous situations, but at times I might as well be flying a gigantic pi+Ķata just waiting to be smashed by every single thing on the map. I feel bad for the new players who see a dropship in action and go "oooh that looks cool, I'd love to give that a try!" yet when they manage to get a Viper, take off, they don't gauge how much thrust is needed and land a few feet back down onto the ground, only to find themselves in a big fiery ball of death .. now this is enough to put the most enthusiastic of players off flying,.. and RVD Bolas pilots are all alcoholics, as they seem to send our vehicles hurdling into buildings or terrain at the cost of a couple of thousands worth of ISK (that's a point for another day).
I highly recommend you rethink the terrain-to-dropship contact damage per MPS (meters per second), .. although I have a feeling you've implemented this to counteract the dropship pilots 'crushing' infantry, which I think was generally a bad move, because it takes one hell of a dropship pilot to splatter a running red dot, unless of course you're flying full speed towards a sniper in a hilltop.
So yeah, to put it all simply: please fix the dropships terrain contact damage reception, and/or health, and by health i mean increase the damn thing so we can actually do our jobs as dropship pilots!
Thank you, Foxhound.
