The current guy must be hard of hearing because the weapons sound absolutely atrocious.
If you had beefy sounding Assault Rifles and Shotguns it might go a long way towards hiding the woeful gun-play and frame-rate issues. |

"Assault Rifle" not "Assault Blaster". Read the damn item description. Its a blaster; a weapon that shoots plasma contained into bullet shaped by an electromagnetic field. The assault rifle doesn't sound like a blaster, it sounds boring. I would like for it to sound more like the small blaster turrets.
It could be called a Hedgehog Pineapple 2000 VT.
They still sound like utter, utter crap.
That goes for every single weapon in the game. |

Jesus christ. The mentality on these forums is absurd. It's like people don't want the game to progress past it's current shoddy state.
That's the best you can come up with? CoD fanboy?
Are you able to form a reasoned debate beyond, "It's a blaster".
it doesn't matter what it's called. Everyone I play with thinks the weapons sound *awful*. They don't sound like high powered rifles/blasters/pineapples whatever the **** you want to call them.

Nickles Jester wrote:And so more people fall for the troll thread and feed the obvious troll. Obvi troll Obvi full. Personally I think the Dust sound guy has done a great job, and I'm sure he is better at his job than the OP is at theirs, if they even have a job that is. If you have ideas about what it should sound like, please post some links of something. Then that would be constructive. Just saying the person is bad at their job doesn't do any good for anybody even less so than you. You say some people should grow up, when your the one throwing a tantrum like a child over some sound files, and trolling the forums. You're either a severely immature child or a mentally handicapped adult. Either way your feedback needs more construction and far less trolling/crying.
It isn't a troll thread and your remarks are equally as "childish" as you make mine out to be. You don't agree with my sentiment so you pull out the old reliable "maturity" card. It's pathetic. Stop being defensive over video game. It's just some lines of code, don't take everything so personally.
In case you forgot, you are here to post feedback based on your experience with the beta.

I think the SMG is ok but a little too weedy.
I guess if I had to name a title that is closest in look and ideology to Dust, it would be the Halo series. It has plasma weapons but the sound design is quite powerful and adds to the gun-play experience.

Jesus christ. It's like trying educate pork.
Are you able to separate your love of the game from it's current state for 5 minutes? Are you able to comprehend that you are a beta tester and that you are here to critique various aspects of the game to help make it better? How in the name of all that is good in the world are you unable to see that the game would benefit from better sound design? Is it really that hard to understand? You said you didn't say anything about realism, yet in my previous quote you clearly did. So, mr expert game sound designer, what's a realistic sound for plasma weapons? Don't forget to use your past experience with plasma weapons as a basis, oh....and halo too.
I don't know what theoretical plasma weapons would sound like but I'd bet my bottom dollar if I had an Assault Rifle based on these design (with all the aesthetic looks of a generic AR) that it wouldn't sound like a guy playing a washboard in a southern cajun ensemble. |

Yes I'm aware I'm a beta tester, I've been testing it since december 2011,I'm fully aware of what we are here to do, but coming out with crap like 'hire a new sound designer' is not constructive criticism, it's rude and damn obnoxious. Especially when you have no reasoning behind your OP. Give an example of what YOU deem acceptable for plasma weapons to sound like and then maybe your argument will have some foundation.
I gave 5 examples of games that I think have good weapon sound design. 2 of them are F2P FPS's.
I still don't understand why you are so sensitive to my wording (which was tongue in cheek), unless you are part of the dev team? |

CCP Earworm wrote:Hi, CCP Earworm, sound programmer for Dust, here.
Later this week we're content streaming a lot of new sounds, affecting everything from the music to the explosions to the firing sounds of many different weapons. These changes are a big step to finishing the sound and setting the mood we want.
The LAR is one sound that we've constantly iterated on since it's the bread and butter of the dust battlefield. We've gone through a ton of versions to find the right fit for the LAR, and the new version coming in this week (along with all the sweeping changes in overall sound) takes into account what you guys have been talking about here.
Thanks for all the comments!
I'm delighted to see a developer actually take note of the forum. I honestly didn't think it happened.

First you say you can't believe people can be so connected to a game, then you claim to be more passionate about it than I. Very nice. Your original post had nothing to do with improving the game, just whining about how it's being done wrong. I only said what I did because I found it hilarious how long the community had to go over it with you to get you to give up a semi-constructive answer. Anyway, as for my view of how there are other more important things to deal with right now, I don't see how anyone can disagree that getting server stability is more important than the sound my gun is making. But to each his own.

You said, as is quoted above: "The real passionate fans are here pushing for changes that will elevate this to the best status it can possibly be at. " So, I coul be mistaken here. You are either considering yourself a more passionate fan than I, thereby saying your points are more valid, or you are saying that the more passionate fans opinions are... better than me? Have better opinions than me? Help me out here, because either way, you are propping up people as being better than me because they are more passionate about this game RIGHT AFTER you said that you can't believe anyone could be so emotionally attached to a game. Just a little confused there. Also, I never said that changing the audio wasn't a popular choice, I'm saying that you had no constructive posts until they coaxed it out of you. If they hadn't been there trying to get an actual constructive answer out of you, the thread would have gone nowhere. Thus, they steered it. Not saying one side of the debate was controlling it more than another, just that the community saved the thread from being nothing but an unconstructive series of complaints.
I don't consider myself anything. You seem to be implying that. Personally, I think Dust is an awful, awful game that is probably beyond saving (on this hardware anyway). I'd like to see it match it's vision but CCP don't appear to be able to nail the very basics.
It was your good self who was throwing out "forumtard" in your overly defensive opening post. If you are confused, try reading again. I'm not here to help you comprehend anything. You seem to be quite the know it all already. Maybe you can muse on all this while you talk to your pillow? Who gives a ****, really?
Whether you think the thread would gone anywhere or not is irrelevant. It went somewhere and it appears that CCP had been working on the sound before I posted it. |

Also, if you think sound is a small issue in an FPS, you are deluded as to the elements of what makes a good game.
Play any FPS (or any game for that matter) with no sound and you'll realise how much of the game is lost.
